I have little faith in Darnold. Mills has intriguing talent.

What would you give up to trade up to 4?
LinvilleGorge replied to irrevalentfalconsfan's topic in 2025 NFL Draft
As much as I don't like it, we've already made our QB trade. A team looking to add more draft assets isn't trading draft assets to move up in the draft after they've already traded three draft picks for Sam Darnold. -
Young LTs don't come cheap. Good on the Chiefs for watching their young elite franchise QB take a beating in the Super Bowl and then actually fuging doing something to address it. Had the Panthers been smart enough to do the same, maybe we wouldn't be trying to convince ourselves that Sam Darnold will be our savior.

The “Deep OT class” may not be as deep at LT in scouts eyes
LinvilleGorge replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly, that's fine with me. Seems like a lot of the best OTs over the past couple of decades are the guys who scouts are trying to pigeonhole as RTs only or even kicking them inside to OG. Scouts are to LTs what the Huddle is to #1 WRs. If the guy isn't a slam dunk HOFer he just doesn't belong. The problem for the scouts is that a lot of those guys have been busting over the past 20 years. -
Yeah, apples beforehand oranges after.

I think he has a much better chance of being gone than starting. It'd be awesome if he improves drastically but all those healthy scratches last year tells me the staff has pretty much given up on him.
-
Recruiting is non-stop at the college level. He's looked like this for quote awhile now. Basically ever since the wheels fell off last season.
-
I mean, you could simply go back and watch his pressers before and after.

Given the trade, I would've gone: Darrisaw - OT, VT Asante Samuel, Jr. - CB, FSU Davis Mills - QB, Stanford Chazz Surratt - LB, UNC Josh Myers - IOL, OSU Talanoa Hufanga - SS/LB, USC James Hudson - OT, Cincy James Wiggins - FS, Cincy
-
Honestly, I wouldn't hate that trade but I'd hate those picks. As a heels fan, I LOVE Javonte Williams but picking a RB in the 2nd round should be an immediately fireable offense for this roster.

Rhule seemed so youthful and energetic at Baylor and immediately following us hiring him. Dude just looks beat down and like he's not enjoying himself these days. Losing sucks, but he's lost before at Temple and at Baylor early in his tenure at those stops. I just hope he isn't getting discouraged with the much more limited ways to address your roster in the NFL vs. at the college level.

If you could combine the best qualities of Teddy and Darnold I think you'd have a legit franchise NFL QB. Unfortunately, you can't. Darnold has more raw talent, but Teddy is the smarter quarterback. Honestly, I doubt Darnold works out either. I just hope he's boom or bust. Be the answer or net us the pick that gets us the answer.

Joe Person on Panthers plans for #8 pick
LinvilleGorge replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Let's be honest... until he proves otherwise, I don't think any opposing DCs are shitting themselves going up against Sam Darnold. -

LinvilleGorge replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hope he's right and Verge is wrong about our opinion on Jones. Not that it matters if the Niners take him at #3. I hope out interest in Fields is legit. If he's there at #8 he should be the pick. I fully expect a CB to be added fairly early in the draft. Everything about our defensive scheme last year was about covering for our weaknesses on the back end. -
Passing on a star for more draft capital
LinvilleGorge replied to unicar15's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is certainly worth noting. The Seahawks knocked it out of the park drafting early in Carroll's career but they've been pretty trash at drafting for awhile now. -

I'm not sure Darnold is anything more than our "QB decision for right now". We haven't even officially picked up his fifth year option yet. -
Considering expectations, our D performed admirably. Prior to the season, pretty much all of us expected to have one of if not the worst defense in the NFL and they were pretty far from that.
-
We don't have any cap liabilities on any of those other virtually limitless camp bodies. We do on Grier and Little. Their bonus money is hitting our cap one way or the other so unless they're just locker room cancers they're the better camp bodies. .
-
It's probably because they're on cheap rookie contracts and you always need camp bodies. Just being honest.
-
Wouldn't surprise me in the least if we took a guy like Mills or Mond if one was available in the 3rd.
-
I never saw it to be honest. He looked like he had two left feet in every Combine drill and he tested athletically subpar across the board.
-
How many times was he a healthy scratch last season? Yeah, I think he has a steep uphill battle to be on the roster this coming season and we'd likely trade him for any offer we could get.

Hidden Gem on Day 3? Simi Fehoko, WR from Stanford
LinvilleGorge replied to blueandblackattack's topic in 2025 NFL Draft
I'd add UNC's Dazz Newsome and WFU's Sage Surratt to the list. Newsome in particular is intriguing as a Samuel replacement. He doesn't have Samuel's game breaking speed, but he has better hands and is a much better route runner coming out of college than Samuel was. He has similar versatility. He's be a great 3rd day pick. Surratt is a more typical pure receiver, but he's a good one. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if he ends up being picked on day two. -
It honestly won't surprise me either way. If they think Fields is the long term answer they should take him. Most people think he needs to sit and learn for a year anyway. They could let him do that and then trade Ryan leading up to next year's draft. If they aren't taking Fields or Fields isn't there, I think they'd be smart to listen to offers. Yeah, Pitts is an incredible prospect but turning down a potentially weighty trade offer to draft a TE? Oh wee mayne.

I'm saying not everything gets reported. The conversation almost certainly never went anywhere. They probably said #2 was straight up off the table. But there's zero chance we didn't at least ask in passing about it. There's zero reason not to. The worst that can happen is they say no. Okay, cool. So now we're still in the same spot we were in before.
