I might take a look at him outside--he is a great athlete--before cutting him

First of all, thanks for sharing. I love these kinds of posts because they confirm my thoughts or challenge my thinking--- Here is my thinking: YGM? Are you cutting him?

It's Jets joint practice Day 1 (8.9.2023)
MHS831 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
No doubt. I could not tell what the DB did to jar it out, but a misplaced pass is vulnerable because the WR does not have a natural motion to tuck the pass quickly--I would have to watch it again, but I think the pass was intended for the sideline when Bryce say the DB and threw it inside--maybe throwing off the timing, etc. But you are right--a good WR makes that play and we move the chains. -
This is for discussion if there is an interest--there are literally several dozen ways this could go, but I think we are suddenly loaded at OL--so we have to build the roster with the long game in mind. I hope to hear some alternative perspectives. Here is what I would do--(as of August 9) 1. Early in the season, we are not going to have Corbett. Zavala has had a hamstring injury so he is unlikely to be ready for week 1, and he is a 24 year old rookie--so it will take time. I Fully expect him to challenge Christensen for the LG position. Cade Mays will play RG until Corbett returns, but when he does, Mays should fall into a reserve role behind Corbett and (with some work) Bozeman. 2. Christensen has the athleticism to play OT, and his play at LG was mediocre in 2022. With Zavala being groomed for LG (my theory--lotta talk about him playing beside Ikwonu), it is my opinion that they would like to move BC to OT as the swing OT when Zavala and Corbett are ready. This would give BC a year to work primarily as a RT to prepare for the starting role. In 2024 and 2025, Moton's cap number is just under $30m, so he would be good trade bait. Christensen could then move to RT, saving the team a lot of cap space. He will be 28 at the time and in the last year of a contract with a cap hit of $1.6 m for 2024. 3. DiRenzo and Jensen have been pleasant surprises, so by the end of the 2023 season, it is possible that DiRenzo could get looks as the primary backup R OT for 2024 and beyond. Jensen could make McCray expendable and move into a reserve G role, behind Corbett, Zavala, and Mays. While I expect Jensen and DiRenzo to possible begin the season on the PS, I think they will be added to roster when the dominoes (as described above) start falling. By the end of the 2023 season, i expect the OL depth chart to look very much like this: LT: Ekwonu, Christensen LG: Zavala, Jensen C : Bozeman, Mays RG: Corbett, (Mays) RT: Moton, DiRenzo 2023 Offseason: Trade Moton for a high draft pick (second?) and save $28.4 m in cap room. 2024 season: LT: Ekwonu, (rookie or free agent) LG: Zavala, Jensen C : Bozeman, Mays RG: Corbett, (Mays) RT: Christensen, DiRenzo This gives us youth and depth--and makes the OL very cap friendly for 2024. The key is BC, obviously--but I do not think he is the right position and we seem to have 6 guards right now with a legit shot at making the roster aside from BC (Corbett, Zavala, Mays, McCray, Jensen, and DiRenzo) My point? The OL will have to heal and develop this season, and I do not see Moton at age 30 being worth $30m to us--I think BC should be ready (very athletic) and I think I would roll the dice by moving Moton in a trade and saving cap space. Thoughts? (Sorry for the length--I say that a lot)..

I'd say bad read. For that pass to be good, he would have thrown it inside--but the momentum of the WR was set up for an outside pass--I think Bryce tried to adjust the pass and got cute. -

agree--he whiffed one play and the next play was bull rushed into the endzone seats. -
As for his durability---if we only had a 6-5, 245 lb QB we would not have to worry about injuries.

Butker struggled last season, fwiw. 18 of 24 (ranked 28th) and missed 3 x points.

I see another Gamecock stepping in because of his return abilities--Vann

If the Panthers Win the Superbowl This Year.....

Before some of you continue attacking the OP, how many saw 2015 coming? -
No--he would not--this girl., in my opinion, has high character because Bryce is dating her. To each his own, but I was disappointed in Cam's decision to mother his children.

Not sure he has the taste in women Cam had

Having taken a pay cut and then being moved to #2 or #3 on the depth chart behind a free agent has to impact you.

Some players take time--most WRs take more than a year. If you think coaching changes, OCs, QBs, have no impact on a player's development it tells me you never played the game or attempted to understand what it is like to learn and develop on a high level. If you are looking for instant gratification, gets some Jergens and paper towels and find yourself a dark corner. If not, thank the manager at McDonalds for the free wi-fi and keep pounding on your second-hand laptop like some NFL expert.

Getting ready to ask, "Why do we have 2 threads on 2017 panther guards?"
-
We did not re-sign him. I guess you are arguing that Peppers chose to leave--but that is one way of looking at it--as an organization, letting him go without compensation or resigning him is letting him walk.
-
Cam is hard to measure--We had a good defense for the most part, and he rarely had 4 strong quarters in a game--but we were hanging around when he went into beast mode. Never had back-to-back winning seasons, career passing percentage under 60%, but man, he could make things happen when it mattered. Rivera was named coach of the year twice because of Cam, so I dunno. I just do not see a yellow jacket for Cam--but I could be wrong.
-
Getting rid of Burns would be like letting Julius Peppers walk. No franchise would be that dumb... Most of Carolina's elite edge rushers (Johnson, Rucker, Hardy) aside from Peppers did very little until year 3. Burns is 25 and we are about to see 4-5 elite years of a premier edge rusher entering his prime. A top edge makes your DBs better and allows for average edge rushers to benefit from a lack of attention.

Fox was bitter. I heard him in Spartanburg make a negative comment about AEdwards to another coach (right in front of a group of people watching the practice) after watching him drop a punt from the jugs machine. He said something like, "At least we got a punt returner out of the draft" (sarcastically). He was not really engaging with the players--just watching and shaking his head.

I do not think the Panther placement is homerism--I think the others are downgrading the Panthers based on their recent rep. The Panthers, as stated, are only a QB away, and this team won 7 games without a good QB. We have a lot of questions, but all teams do. I think the Panthers will win 10.
