PFF Top 100 Free Agents and their projected contract
MHS831 replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think we can find a good TE here, and I saw a lot of Safeties (going from memory) so the shopping could be good for those two needs. -

That Robbiey Anderson Contract was stupid--I said it at the time. -
The QB School : Breaking down AR and Levis

I think Aussie was saying, "if we don't like any of the picks in our range in the draft...(deciding to pick one later or not at all). Yes, Carr will have a team before the new NFL year begins in March, in my opinion. He will entertain a bidding war. -

If he gets to free agency (I think that happens on Feb 15) I am all in on that. However, we would have to engage in a bidding war---and we could make that work, but it would cost us Shaq in my guesstimate. -
Cam? Why not make Reich a player/coach? We'd never get a delay of game penalty.

The QB School : Breaking down AR and Levis
MHS831 replied to Your GFs favorite huddler's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am still toying with the idea of re-signing Darnold and letting Corral compete with him for 2023. Not ideal, I get it. Draft Hooker in round 3 (hopefully)--let him rehab for most of 2023. I still wonder if Reich can get something out of Darnold--folks, you all act like you know NFL QB play--but you really don't. Darnold is 25 and was showing some degree of improvement. Give him a TE and he is better. Let Hooker and Corral compete for the QB job in 2024 if Darnold does not work out. You save your draft pick (first rounder) this way. I am just not sold on Levis and AR. I would like to be--but if Hooker was younger and healthy, would he not be ahead of both? -
If people are looking for the next Cam, teasers like this will make them bite every time. David Newton (and he has the inside scoop, not) says we like the next Tom Brady---Will Levis.

Here is the problem with drafting a "Mini Cam" by comparing qualities. Cam was not that accurate. Richardson is not that accurate. For them to be elite QBs in the NFL, they have to run the ball, extend plays, etc. So you have to gain from the RPO running as much as you lose from the accuracy issues. For example, if Cam averages 6 yards per pass attempt and he throws 30 passes and Brees averages 8 yards per pass attempt and he throws 30 passes, Cam throws for 180 yards and Brees throws for 240 yards. Cam, in theory, would need to gain 60 yards rushing and avoid turnovers to compete. That means Cam would take about 10 hits per game more than Brees. Hits on a QB are different than on a RB because the QB is not always in position to take on a hit. He is often reading the secondary or checking for open WRs when he he runs out of time and gets popped. So for an Athletic QB with accuracy issues to compete, he takes a beating. It is what happened to Cam--I predicted that we'd be lucky to get a decade out of him, and I was torched by the nut huggers on here. It is not about Cam--it is about wear and tear. I think Lamarr Jackson is in the same boat. I think Allen in Buffalo needs to change the way he plays or he is heading toward a short career.

Is Bill Parcell's formula still applicable? I think Brock Purdy is an example of what he meant. 1. Be a three year starter 2. Be a Senior 3. Graduate from college 4. Start over 30 games 5. Win 23 games 6. Complete over 60% of passes 7. Post a 2-1 TD to Int ratio As much as I realize the game is changing, I see why these things are important--each measures different qualities of his ideal QB. Experience, maturity, intelligence, durability, competitiveness/leadership, accuracy, and decision-making. Which QB in this draft best meets these requirements?

when you say, Cam in the rough, I think, "Cam was in the rough when he came out." AR is two inches or so shorter and not as thick. Of the 4 QBs at the top of this draft, he is the closest to Cam.

Reich’s description of a QB: It’s basically Corral
MHS831 replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
I really hope Young does not fall--I hope someone grabs him early. So much depends on how much we like Richardson and Levis. I think they are both a year away, and I got the idea they wanted a QB as the final piece--which suggests right now. If we wait, we can add a stud TE and maybe a WR to help make him better. This is going to be interesting, but after hearing Fitterer, he sounded like he will be aggressive-as if he sees QB as a "final piece". Of course, they have a lot of homework to do. -

This has to be the plan. I see Vegas and maybe Atlanta as threats ahead of the Panthers. If someone drops to 6, I think that is where we move up if we do. -

MHS831 replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
Did you all hear Fitterer? I realize there is some liar's poker out there, but what he said makes sense--you have a good, young defense. You have a good, young OL. At WR, you have 4-5 decent to good WRs--Moore, Shenault, TMJ, Smith. I think if can sign a good TE and maybe find one more WR, we could be really good now. He said, "If there is a QB you like in this draft, considering the rest of the roster, you go get him." (paraphrasing). To me, he will find a few free agents and re-sign some folks. He will use the CMC trade to move up for the franchise QB. Levis and Richardson are very talented projects--but they might need a year. I see Stroud as their target--he has the tools Reich described--but do not discount resigning Darnold for a season and drafting Levis or Richardson. -
This is like a con man who sold you a fake Rolex for $100 coming after you because you only gave him $80.

Reich’s description of a QB: It’s basically Corral
MHS831 replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
OK, Not reading the entire thread--so excuse me if this was said. I read tea leaves. Reich said that he likes a mobile QB etc. and then he mentioned Wentz. He said (correctly) you need a run/option threat to keep the backside honest, etc. We needed a mature QB coach veteran, and I have no doubt that we will bring in a QB coach with expertise in a different skill set. Fitterer said the pieces are in place, just need a QB--even if you have to move up to get him, you go get him. He thinks the time is right. Richardson (6-4) is the tallest QB, but I doubt we have to move up for him. He is also a project that does not help next year, IMO. Levis (6-3) is more athletic than Wentz but 2" shorter. Stroud (6-3) has to be the #1 target. -
I think they feel that Payton will turn Wilson around--and frankly, Wilson was SO BAD this year, he stands to look like a QB Whisperer if Wilson becomes average. That franchise (Denver) is in a bad place. Losing a first this year and probably a second next year--after the Wilson trade and contract. Yikes.
-
Maybe they did not hear about bountygate in the AFC. Shhh.
-
wonder what the compensation is--they have the 29th pick overall--then don't draft again until round 3.
-
Good post--imagine using facts to make your point--what a concept on the Huddle. Reading the tea leaves--it sure looks like any of the top 4 qbs, but Richardson makes you wonder because he has the most upside and raw athleticism.

Man, I want to believe you---I really do. I just think, "QBU?" Not Ohio State.

Frank Reich's Intro Presser - Today, Noon EST
MHS831 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think he is a fraud. What I did NOT hear: "At the end of the day..." "It is what it is." "A punt is a good play." How can he coach without telling us this vital stuff? -
I hear the Colts like Levis (don't know why everyone seems to be saying this). If they move up to get him, that could make Stroud affordable--assuming others don't trade up before us. I would move up ahead of Vegas and Atlanta, then take the best QB available--I am guessing it could be either Stroud or Levis--- I am not confident that either is a good pick, however. Part of me says trade back, grab a pick or two, and take Hendon Hooker at 61. If healthy, his skill set is not below Richardson or Levis if you ask me (but I am not good at evaluating QB talent) Sign a QB on a 1-year "prove it" deal or an aging veteran. Then you'd have Hooker on a 3-year rookie contract between the ages of 26-29. I dunno.

To me, the biggest crime wasn't that Peyton won 2 SBs, it was that Eli did.

Was that the 2016 season? I recall playing Denver in the opener, and I was thinking that was the game wherein the entire Broncos Defense should have been fined and the refs fired. Too tired to google.
