  1. It's unfortunate the issues of the Panthers seem to compound themselves from one season to the next. And it's gone on for so many years in Charlotte that a single off-season isn't going to change or fix anything. The QB issues go back to 2018; the O-line issues go back years and is not a one-off situation, it's now a generational issue with this team. General managers are a generational challenge with this team. There are all issues that have compounded themselves over the years and have only gotten exponentially worse, not better. If you hired Ray Charles to paint the inside of your house and you're not happy with the results, would you then hire Stevie Wonder to come in and fix it? This is the path the Carolina Panthers have chosen and it's the primary reason I can shake my head, laugh and thank the people who bought my PSLs a few years back.
  2. Boy, was that not a fun watch last night. Unfortunately, I was multi-tasking with a 9' Christmas tree and my wife kept telling me maybe it wasn't a good idea for me to be working on the tree while the Canes were losing.... Anyway, I'm not sure 4 goals on 17 shots is a good look for Anderson. Granted, 1 was empty net, but 2 were off breakaways. Having the #2, 3 and 4 defensemen off the ice hurts a lot. I thought the Dallas game was fairly easy to diagnose- they simply played defense be flooding the middle of the ice and forced everything outside for the Canes. Couldn't get anything to the front of the net and cross-ice passes were getting picked off all night. On another note, I saw where RBA was fined $25k for unleashing his fury at the refs during the Washington game Sunday. Tripp even walked back his game-time comments that Aho's penalty, which resulted in the 5-on-3 for the Caps, was not a slash, which he said was a slash during the game. And I don't have a problem if the calls are consistent both ways, but less than 3 minutes later Staal had his stick taken out of his hands in the same manner and no call was made. It's the same across all sports for me- when the calls made by officials have a direct effect on the outcome of the game and they've taken it out of the players hands, then it's a problem.
  3. Not to mention the ref didn't call it until Ovechkin raised his arm and yelled at the ref, in pure Tom Brady fashion, telling him to make the call.
  4. Chatfield & LaJoie were called up from Chicago.
  5. It made even less sense when they decided this was a rebuilding year. And it doesn't matter which came first- if you're rebuilding, you don't pay anyone that kind of money. Or, if you pay someone that money, you can't walk it back by saying it's a rebuild season.
  6. That's not what I said. Top 5 salary average for a WR the last 5 seasons is almost $16M. If you tag a WR, whether he plays #1, 2 or slot makes no difference. Remember the TE a couple years ago when a TE tried to get WR franchise tag money because of the number of receptions he had? Top 5 average salary for a RB the last 5 seasons is about $8.7M.
  7. Available defensemen: Cole, Smith, Slavin and Skjei I think Slavin and Skjei will be #1, with Smith and Cole each taking a youngster. Dallas is 10-7-2, but has won 4 straight against the Blues, Oilers, Avs and Coyotes. That's 3 quality wins in 4 games against better teams, so they'll be skating with confidence on home ice. And we can say hello to Jani Hakanpaa!
  8. Never happen. WR franchise tag is nearly twice that of a RB. WR salaries are far higher than RBs. You are correct about coverage, though. He could routinely beat LBs, but nickel CBs will shut him down.
  9. And it's a good Canes season to do just that.
  10. He's a Cooper Kupp, Adam Thielen, Isaiah McKenzie type guy. But I doubt he'll be moved.
  11. This isn't good. Bear doesn't come off protocol until Wednesday, which means he'll stay home when the Canes travel to Dallas. They'll be reaching out to Chicago for a few guys to complete the roster.
  12. I think my wife has worn her 22 jersey on more Sundays than Christian has worn his .... jus' sayin'.
  13. Meanwhile, this morning somewhere in the Caribbean....
  14. I still love the game and will watch a good matchup, like yesterday's Packers-Rams game shaped up, but I was done with it by halftime. But I've become far more interested in hockey as a fast-moving sport with few clock stops and relatively few rules, not to mention a much easier salary cap structure to understand. I always enjoyed the game, but a Carolina Hurricanes experience a couple years ago really tipped the scale for me.
  15. Looking back, that was probably the day after the draft in April.
  16. At the end of the 2021 season the Panthers will have played 81 football games. McCaffrey will have played in 52 of those 81 (64%). He's beginning to approach Dan Morgan-like numbers. Morgan, if you'll recall, played in 59 of the 112 games (53%) on Carolina's schedule over his 7-year stint with the Panthers. To his credit, though, Morgan played in all 7 post-season games in 2003 and 2005.
  17. Yeah, this is a tough stretch coming up: 11/30: @ Dallas 12/2: Ottawa 12/4: Buffalo 12/7: @ Winnipeg Jets 12/9: @ Calgary Flames 12/11: @ Edmonton Oilers 12/12: @ Vancouver Canucks 12/14: @ Minnesota Wild
  18. Most likely see a huge improvement this bye week with zero chance to lose....
  19. So, who's the top-rated DB in college?
  20. Canes last 2 losses came at the hands of the officials at the end of the game.
  21. Horrible officiating again. Washington loses this game with level officiating.
  22. Washington doing their usual- they start getting out-played and then come the cheap shots. Martinook leveled Jensen.
  23. No benefit of the doubt no-calls from the refs today. That was a 50-50 at best.
  24. Another wasted season trying to figure out their identity while rebuilding or not rebuilding- I don't think they know what they're doing.
