  1. How we finish will be on the defense more than the offense. Tampa's defense won that Superbowl not Brady. His offense was good but the defense was tough particularly in the playoffs. Our offense will score points. The question is whether we can score when we need to and control the clock with long drives. But the real question is how aggressive we will be on defense. Between the 20s we sat in a passive zone shell and rushed 3 way too often last year. I miss the aggressive Panther defenses of the past that were our identity. Snow has the pieces now to play man and blitz. No.more excuses for that pansy prevent defense that stopped no one after it got figured out and teams got film on it. Our record? I would love 10-6 but again it depends on whether the coaches can get these guys playing together as a team. I think we will end up 9-7 amd second or third in the division.
  2. A reddit post I thought was interesting. I think if you have good feet, great balance and agility, an inch or two in arm reach isn't going to hurt that much. What do our ex-linemen Huddlers think.
  3. I was thinking the same thing. Long arms are a benefit but not required. If you have great feet and are in good position you don't need to reach and grab. And leverage can be gained several ways. You got to figure Christiansen knows what to do with what he has or he wouldn't have made it to this level to begin with.
  4. Chris Simms value was where he picked qbs and then we saw how they actually worked out. So let's see how they actually perform versus how he ranked them this year. Mocks are really useless given a few wrong picks in the top 15 jumbled everything up. Plus if teams don't trade as expected or they trade unexpectedly, it throws everything out of balance. They can generally be useful for relative tracking but not for specific picks.
  5. I think Rhule and Brady believe in the system and feel they can make the guys they have do well.. Teddy is gone because he wouldn't uncork the ball and couldn't throw it deep. Something Darmold and our other guys will have no problem doing if they have the time and personnel.
  6. No you won't if it isn't part of the plan. Particularly if you aren't taught how to do it and the coach tells you not to. This is like some of of the criticism Cam got for always running the ball when Chudd was here particularly in the second year when he was auditioning for a head coaching job and trying to show everyone how great he was. I have heard that Cam wasn't allowed to run audibles or change plays which is where the thinking that Cam can't read defenses came from after being in a college system where the one play was called in by the coach with little variation. Like Darnold, Cam was captive to the system he was in and wasn't taught those skills. It doesn't mean they can't do it simply the scheme didn't allow it and they were never taught how to do it. That won't be the case this year.
  7. I have read that he wasn't allowed to call audibles or change plays. The offense was completely run by Gase from the sidelines and Darnold ran what he was told from the sidelines. That scheme is worlds apart from we run now. There is a question about whether Darnold can go from merely a guy who does what he is told with no alteration to the play to a guy who can manipulate defenses with player movement before and after the snap and making good reads and delivering the high percentage throws. You can surely argue that he doesn't know how to do those things but it isn't clear if he has the capacity or simply was never the opportunity given how awful Gase was as a coach and how poor the scheme is for the Jets.
  8. Needs to improve lower body strength to deal with bull rushers and is much better in pass defense than opening up the run game from what little I have read or seen.
  9. There really isn't much difference for top guys. You need a great left and right tackle or teams simply line up their best rusher over your weakest tackle.
  10. Historical statistics really mean nothing if you aren't betting on odds. These are college players and we need a potential left tackle in the draft. If you think Rhule and Fitterer are great talent evaluators then we are good. If they suck, it doesn't matter the odds. We only need one and he can surely be the exception to the rule. Who cares as long as we get our guy.
  11. Let's hope we finally hit on one. Even blind pigs sometimes find a nut. I guess you have to keep swinging until you finally hit a homerun.
  12. Yeah if you can find a starter at this point you have done well. If you find a starter at a position of great need you have started your legacy as a talent evaluator. I would love to tell you I know who it would be but I would be repeating the same names already mentioned. I hope our team does their job and nails it.
  13. I think the Jets moved from one QB to another to appease the fans and put the blame on Darnold. If Wilson does better it will be better coaching and better players not that Wilson is more talented than Darnold.. Anyine who watched the Jets at all knows that the offensive scheme was awful and Darnold got little help. He will be much better under Rhule and Brady because he nows has better coaching, a much better scheme and much better players. He doesn't have to be all world to have success here. Distribute the ball and let your players do their job.
  14. Until he learns that grabbing doesn't work in the NFL he might. But you can't blame him for adhering to the rules in college which allow more. Once he figures it out he will be fine.
  15. I would love a future left tackle pick here if we can find someone who can lock down the position and be our guy for years to come. LT and shutdown corner in the first 2 rounds? What a huge draft this could be if we take care of 2 huge nagging issues in the first 2 rounds.
  16. Fields made little sense once we got Darnold. For me it was between LT and CB. The best LT was gone but the best CB was there. It wasn't a tough decision once we couldn't get Sewell and no one wanted to give us a bunch to trade down. I'm glad the football folks won this debate. Even if Fields is great he wasn't a great pick for us at this point.
  17. That is the third guy I really liked that I was lining up for the second round that already got picked. Obviously it is past my bedtime. Exit stage left.....
  18. We did get Bradberry though. The mistake was not getting vets to start and working rookies into the rotation instead of throwing them to the wolves day 1.
  19. He is 6'1 and 205 which is big for a fast corner. Couple that with great length and he plays even bigger than he is.
  20. I like Leatherwood who is an OT from Alabama. Projects well in a quick passing rpo heavy scheme.
  21. He didn't panic he found the one guy Pitts hated to face. That would be Horn. When Atlanta picked Pitts I said we needed a big corner to compete and put Jackson in the slot. Suddenly the loss of Bradberry has been restored and with Chinn going to safety suddenly we have a potentially great secondary. An absolute necessity in this division and our Achilles heel most years.
  22. I hoped this was the pick after Atlanta got Pitts. Who did Pitts say was his toughest match up. Yeah that would be Horn. https://247sports.com/Article/Kyle-Pitts-reveals-toughest-matchup-Jaycee-Horn-Florida-Gators-South-Carolina-Gamecocks--164517672/
  23. When Sewell wasn't there and we couldn't get enough to trade back, this was a stellar pick. When Atlanta took Pitts I told my son we need a shutdown corner to compete and put Jackson in the slot. With Chinn moving to safety our secondary is going to be tough. I read that the guy Pitts hating playing against was Horn.
  24. That would be my plan. Grab a Cb or two, some more linemen on both sides of the line and throw in another TE and call it a day.
