For me, I have three tiers and would be happy with any of the candidates. I'd prefer Tier 1, but I am not getting my hopes up. I want the next hire to have three things.... 1 - A plan for Bryce. He doesn't have to be specifically brought in as a "Bryce Whisperer", but Young is our franchise QB and has untapped talent that was not 2 - A common vision/alignment with our new GM to build the culture and personnel the right way. I don't care if they are OC or DC, just get this team back on track from top to bottom. 3 - Who is he bringing with him? This can be everything from coordinators to potential players and connections around the league. For example, would having Callahan be the connection that decides on where Higgins goes in FA? Could we land Jamo Williams with BJ's tie to Detroit? The players matter less, but it definitely helps a francise with poor optics around the league right now. The Big 3 who I want first and foremost. A clear separation from the other candidates: Harbaugh Johnson Vrabel The Young Coordinators that are all lumped together for me for differing reasons. Each are ready but could see differing levels of success/failure once they are the man running the show and not strictly calling plays. I really don't think either is necesarily "better" than the other. Evero Slowik Smith Canales MacDonald Monken Callahan The more "veteran" HCs with experience calling the shots and with SB experience. Both of their last stints didn't end well, but time has passed and shouldn't be held to that forever: Morris Quinn

Meh. I don't think the two are a marriage the way we're hoping for Johnson & Disner/Agnew or MacDonald & Matteo/Hortiz. Brian Johnson might be the least talented HC candidate on our list. He's done nothing worth being a HC here and if we go the implied route they are saying, I would have zero interest in tuning in to this franchise for the next couple of years. I think Tepper can be enamored with Philly's organization, like Halaby and not hire Johnson.

I feel the same way about Monken, Canales, Bellichick and Callahan. I'm good with just about everyone else.

IDK, I think the WAS opening would appeal to me more. Full clean slate there with new Ownership and the ability to align everything from the top, down. A historic franchise with a lot of fandom as well. A few young pieces on offense in Cosmi, Brown, Dotson and Robinson, Jr. The team has the choice to either commit to a young QB on a rookie deal or start fresh with Williams/Maye. Could move back too and still get Daniels. A couple of pieces on D like Payne, Forbes and a big asset in Jonathan Allen. Combined with the #2 pick in the draft, a couple of seconds and close to $75M in cap space, I think that is the spot. LA makes sense, but I'd choose WAS over LA. Chargers will always be the Clippers and not the Lakers in that town compared to the Rams.

Give me either one of these in the 2nd round and I’m happy..

True. I mistook the response to be that we take JAG WRs after the first round. I was lumping Smitty in with WRs after R1. Lo siento. -

All these new Panthers fans or folks with short memories….. -
This guy is very, very talented. I wonder if he did stray from Dallas, would he want Quinn to come along as new HC. Though I would guess his reason for leaving Big D would be to get away from an owner like Jerry and blaze his own path. Here, he would take several steps back with an equally as meddling owner, but with less football knowledge or history.

NFC South 2024 Offseason Financials [Spotrac]
Soul Rebel replied to Evil Hurney's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would try to trade DJax and Thielen. Would also see if there's any takers for Sanders. If Huff or Allen could be had in FA, I'd trade Burns if it gets us something like '24 R1, '24 R2, '25 R2. Spend the money from Burns on Huff/Allen/Young and get back into the first this year and replace the BY 2nd lost in '25. Also need to throw the bag at Higgins, so any additional money would go towards him. Now that we're out of dead cap hell, I'd prefer if we didn't jump back into it with cap management. However, we need to do everything possible to help Bryce and re-sign Luvu and Burns....or a Burns replacement. I think YGM will continue to be a solid opposite partner, so re-signing him is on my "to-do" list. That Hayden Hurst $$ number is no bueno. We have to improve the TE position and keep Tremble as a TE2. -
Disagree. I think it's the coaching, scheme and personnel that are making the difference. Put Bryce in Houston and the results are similar to what CJ7 is doing. Put Stroud in Carolina and fans would be second guessing why we didn't take Bryce. Everything about how we're built and how players are being used is awful. We had a decent OL last year, we forced square pegs into round holes. We had a balanced RB room last year, signed a new RB into a scheme that doesn't fit his skills. Our version of Nico Collins is TMJ....we see how that turned out. Downs was available, we passed on him. Schultz was available....we brought in Hurst. Ryans was never going to be the guy we wanted nor did he want to come here, but Steichen was. He supposedly gaffed the interview, but Reich and his clown car of "All Star" league of extraordinary gentlemen was superior. Wrong. I'm not saying Bryce hasn't had a frustrating rookie year full of mistakes, but to think Stroud would look how he has here and Bryce would be this trash QB in Houston is doing a disservice to Houston's franchise and looking past how broken our front office is.

I'm surprised nobody has posted a Pickens comment and if we would kick the tires. I know he's taken plays off this year and looks checked out, but I've also seen reports that it's being overblown and he's not selifsh nor has a bad attitude. Young kid that's frustrated not getting the ball and doesn't know how to communicate this properly. Could be a head case. Could be a 23-year old that fits the exact archetype of WR we need for Bryce. Probably cheaper than Jameson, Aiyuk, DK, etc.

Would love for him to make it to 65. Doubt he does. Franklin/Polk/Worthy at 33 JPJ at 65 Kick Icky inside Play BC at LT Higgins in FA

Happy with the direction of an outside firm, now will Tepper listen to the analysis and suggestions? I like Morgan and if he can stick around to help with the transition and NOT be the new GM, I'd be happy with that. Morgan might not be Fitterer, but we need a clean slate up top and Morgan too closely resembles Fitterer's thinking for me. To go from Fitts to Morgan seems too much like the thinking that has us in our current situation. I'd love to be wrong about Morgan as a GM. Former Panther, history of success with other organizations. Please don't make this outside consultant agency be Tepper's PR move to smooth out the rocky road he's created, only to be a distraction while he continues to do what he wants.

Mike Macdonald- Meet the Candidate- Part 11 of 12
Soul Rebel replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers
May I ask what it is about MacDonald that makes him a more attractive HC candidate than Evero for us specifically? -
Brian Johnson- Meet the Candidate- Part 12 of 12
Soul Rebel replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think this B.Johnson is my least favorite of the candidates. I've seen enough Iggles fans moan about his boring an complacent style. Not sure how much of that is HC related or if BJ is calling the plays. This would be a very unwise move, IMO. -
Where was the game played last week? Oh that's right.....thx again, Tepp! Turf toe is no joke. Sucks it's 8 given his history, but I get it. 2 games left in the year, he needs to be 100% next year for his own sake whether it's here in Carolina or elsewhere in ''25.

Why the Panthers Should NOT want Ben Johnson
Soul Rebel replied to Mills's topic in Carolina Panthers
So, you're saying...... -
Tagging him if we pull off a S&T looks like the most economical option. YGM has had the better overall year between he and Burns. He might not pop as much, but way more consistent and productive this year. Evero unlocked his potential. Adding a true NT like Maduibuike or Wilkins beside DB will open up our pass rush more.

Reasons to be optimistic about the 2024 offense
Soul Rebel replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think we can rely heavily on AT, Mingo and ISM IN 2024. I think ISM is young enough to be the eventual slot replacement for Thielen after ‘24. Mingo can have that AJ Brown trajectory and be good….potentially really good in a year or two. Landing Higgins would be huge and then getting another game changing offensive weapon in R2 is paramount. I do agree that Tremble has improved enough to see if another year with a more competent coaching staff can etch his name in pen rather than pencil long-term. He plays with purpose and a chip on his shoulder….we need that. IOL is on the roster, IMO. Two of BC, Mays, Zavala & Icky can hold down the two IOL spots. Maybe Icky and BC swap spots and we’re set. I’m not banking on it, but it’s a possibility. Regardless, our first two picks should be WR & OL. Bring in Higgins & Madiubuike in FA. -
We are the most recent iteration of the Cardinals/Jets/Jaguars/Texans.
-
Or even worse.....take a gamble with a 2024 draft pick to replace him.

Bobby Slowik- Meet the Candidate- Part 4 of 12
Soul Rebel replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agree fully with this. I just keep coming back to Evero on this. Perhaps a guy like Klint Kubiak is the next Slowik, but for OC. I do agree that Slowik is intriguing, while possibly being a year or two early for a HC gig. -
Should we seriously consider Evero for head coach?
Soul Rebel replied to PleaseCutStewart's topic in Carolina Panthers
This unit is still transitioning too an odd-front as its' base. He was sifting through guys like Tuttle, Williams and Houston off the scrap heap. Let him have a more prominent role in the decision making process as HCs do. -
Panthers releasing Justin Houston… what a great signing
Soul Rebel replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Houston FA signing is another example of Fitts' trash decisions, but it also leads to one of Fitterer's biggest mistakes....not making Reddick part of the plans. I get Reddick wanted to go back home, but we were building something here and I think if the team showed more of an interest from the jump and genuinly wanted him back, he stays. We helped wipe the stank off his AZ days, played to his strengths, and he thrived here. Much like many of Fitts' moves, his make-up moves are bad....but the initial root of "why" he's needing to make that move, is usually worse (signing Baker after Darnold, after Bridgewater.....trading DJ and then pining for how awful our WR core is). Way too many of these. -
Johnson is the dream. Harbaugh is the vet culture changer that can fix Bryce. Neither are coming here. Belichick would not come to this much of a project at his age and history. I see him in LA or somewhere with more pieces to the puzzle in place. Panthers fans need to be comfortable with either Evero, Slowik, Smith or O'Brien. Truthfully, Evero is going to make the most sense and deserves his shot. Learn from the Wilks mistake. I also think Flores could be a darkhorse, but I doubt he wants to go another round with an undersized 'Bama rookie QB.
