you might be right. Although the pitch from some schools and maybe a few NFL teams will be strong and lucrative. I agree with those who think he might go to FSU. I think he would do better there than the NFL. His name alone is a great recruiting tool.

I am somewhere in between the two of you in terms of my thoughts on the defense. I think we have some guys who would make decent to good backups or adequate starters. They need to add three or four talented players. A topflight defensive end, couple of linebackers and maybe one safety. That would turn this defense from subpar to top 10.

Yeah, but if Prescott is healthy, they still have a shot at being a playoff contender next year. If Deion becomes the coach, well he won't be playing Texas Tech.

I was thinking a match made in he!!

As someone who doesn't like the Cowboys, I hope and pray Sanders is hired to Coach them. It would be amusing to watch, especially if they draft his son. What happens if after 3 years, the Cowboys suck and Jerry needs to fire him? Would the qb be fired as well? Of course, if they are struggling, the fans might want both gone. It will be fun to watch them collapse.

Canales still not sold on Bryce?

I don't really care who is named the starter. While its interesting to some to discuss it on a message board, I doubt it matters much in terms of results. -
You are confusing smart strategic moves with tanking. Sending one or two high priced players away for draft picks isn't tanking. Tanking is trading or cutting all or most of your best players in the hope that your will have several great drafts and in a few years have a team of young great players. Its what the Dolphins did in 2019, and they still suck. Historically bad Dolphins and the trouble with tanking - Sports Illustrated

I am thrilled as anyone with the recent play. That being said, the Giants have the worst passing game in the NFL. My thought is we need Brown back and a good defensive end, as well as at least one good linebacker. I think Shaq may be done, and even if he isn't, might be time to get a guy who can replace him when he is done. And maybe another safety.

You are probably right, but as long as he goes to Dallas, and not here, it will be fun to watch. Or better yet, New Orleans.

I hope and pray we are not in a position to draft Sanders. Jerry world seems like a good place for him, if Daddy comes with him. I do wonder if Dion would be smart enough to back off and let the guy do it on his own though. At some point, parents have to back off. Even that Ball fella did eventually.

Our rookie class on offense looks promising

And in the case of the guy at the top, it took a long time for him to get to that point. -
Imo, the ability to get the ball out quickly and accurately under pressure is still the most important skill a qb can have. Of course, when you can do that and still run around and make freaky looking throws, you get Patrick Mahomes.
-
You might be right, but some make the argument that qb's in college throw the ball more than they did 20-30 years ago.
-
I kind of feel like we have depth. What we need are more starters. I mean some of the guys we have would make excellent backups.

There are a handful (a very small handful) of NFL qb's in history that were able to handle it. Cam Newton, mainly because of his size and strength. Jayden seems to be doing ok but that is because he had an almost idea setup and he played a lot more games in college than the majority of these guys do. But If he were in Chicago, not sure he would be doing any better than Williams. Most of the NFL greats (Brady, Montana, Mahomes, Bradshaw, Staubach etc...) sat for a while. There is this myth that today's qb's are able to play right away because of what they did in college. It ain't true.
-
Its almost as if rookie quarterbacks shouldn't be thrown into the fire from the beginning.

The point is not that winning a few games will change the culture. It's more that intentionally setting up your team to lose never changes things for the positive. I fully agree with getting rid of expensive players that can't help you long term for draft picks. This is a strategic move and if properly implemented, can help. Cowboys did that with Herschel Walker. And got a few SB's out of it. And of getting rid of players that don't work out. But just dumping the team for slew of draft picks doest work.

And tank for Tua, tank for Trevor. And so on and so forth. Fwiw, I don't remember a single tank for Mahomes comment.
-
I am not a fan of Sean Payton, and I hate to see him succeed. That being said, Nix appears to be a good pick. Makes good throws, has a decent arm, and doesn't throw many int's. IMO, that is all you can ask out of a rookie.

Stafford needs to retire.

Scott Fowler on Bryce Young
Davidson Deac II replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not really sure what Hopium is. But I may have tried some of it when I was younger. But nothing we say here makes one bit of difference in what happens to the team. -
And Brooks might finally play. Of course, if he does, it will be against the best run defense in the league. Baptism of fire I suppose.

Of course he isn't sold on Young. No one in their right mind would be. Might be a little encouraged though. -
You know this tanking thing might have some merit. Miami tanked, and now they are one of the, well they still suck. Cleveland had more top five draft picks than just about all the teams in the NFL, and now they are, well they still suck. Detroit did tank unintentionally for 15-20 years, and now it is finally paying off. On second thought, tanking sucks. Good draft picks, good coaching, good free agent moves lead to winning. And building a winning culture is a big deal to and you don't build a winning culture by intentionally losing. The Chiefs are the best team in the NFL, and they never tanked. They had a winning culture, and then made one of the best trades in NFL history to move up a few spots to get Mahomes with the 10th pick in the draft. Had they tanked, they might have drafted Mitch Trubisky.
