true. preseason cam was not a good indicator of regular season cam. i had forgotten that.

kickoff returns were getting rarer anyways. kickers were kicking a lot of touchbacks. more than half the league is kicking a touchback more than 60% of the time and that number had been growing ever since they moved the line from the 30 to the 35 back in 2011 or whenever it was.

i think we'll see as quickly with Young as we did with Cam...as in weeks 1 and 2 i think we'll know we've got something special going on here. tbh, i'm not as excited about Young as i was with Cam (although there is a lot of excitement and that excitement is building for me), but i am far more excited about Young + Reich & co. than i was with Cam + Rivera & co.

one beneficial thing that could happen from a percentage of snaps in offseason practices going to someone other than Young, and this is probably uniquely true for Young, is that he will be able to see what the offense is doing from another perspective which will help him notice things that work well or, more importantly, work better when he is back on the field. granted, those instances need to be limited, but they will still be beneficial. he needs, though to be able to work with this OL and these receivers, TEs and RBs to get to a point of complete trust in each other. no doubt this will be more experienced during game situations, but the more trust in each other they have heading into week 1, the more likely it is for us to have success right out of the gate. one thing to consider, though, in letting someone else take reps is to help ensure that his arm doesn't get worn out in a potentially much longer NFL season than he had in college. i think this is probably the case for all rookie QBs, though. it's going to take an adjustment to get used to a more rigorous and lengthy football season. you need to make sure he's still got gas when/if you get to the playoffs.

the advantage that reich will have over fox and rivera and especially rhule is that he's not coming in with a lot to figure out in the new role. he has the benefit of experience...and not just any experience. he made mistakes in indy. i think he did alright there, but i know he realizes there's some things that he knows looking back that he could have and wished he could have done better. there are some things that he didn't know walking into that new job in indy that i think, looking back, he wished he knew when he got the job. now he has the experience and wisdom that comes from hindsight and he gets to apply that to a new situation for him. plus, we aggre$$ively went after assistant coaches and support staff to ensure that we had the brightest and best available minds there putting this team and scheme together. and then they, this group of the best and brightest available, put their heads together and picked out the best available QB in this draft and the FO sold out to get that young talent. we've never had a moment in this franchises history where we were this dedicated to success and dammit, i'm excited.

if it's going to work, you'll see it year one. you have the right coach...you'll see results quickly. if it takes 2 or more years, you probably don't have the right coach. complete overhauls don't take 2-3 years to succeed anymore. you see the fruits year one and year 2-3 you likely see a solid playoff run. you have the right QB (even a rookie one) and you see bigger success earlier.

disappointed (but not surprised) in that take. stay miserable.

more than likely correct in this situation. from everything i've seen/heard regarding his dad and the way he carries himself publicly and professionally...same with his mother...their demeanor most certainly was modeled throughout Bryce's life and would have been easy for him to naturally emulate. both parents seem to be very controlled and positive in every aspect of life, especially in their professions. For the dad, Craig, because he runs a company that doesn't just deal with counseling, but he does a lot of consulting and motivational speaking, it would be hard to turn that part of himself off from that part. it would likely carry over into life at home. most people, especially people who are self employed, find their work life self carrying into their home life self. it just makes sense that the both the dad and mom's personality part in their profession and who they had to be in that profession, it carried over into what their son saw daily. and i don't think it's rare for that to happen at all. who people are at work carries over a lot of the time into who they are at home and it will, in one way or another, influence the growing and evolving personality and demeanor of their children.

true. tougher division and refs that weren't fans and a league that didn't slobber all over the idea of a dynasty and their track record would have been on par with someone like the steelers. could say the same about the peyton era colts. they really didn't have much of a challenge either. seems like the league had a crew that kept the path clear for the pats, though.

there's just something about that whole era of the patriots that is just annoying. the fact they were so successful and that annoyingly weird just makes it all even more easy to hate them.

he also seems like that guy who keeps talking to you about the latest multi-level marketing scheme that's "not really a mlm" he's got involved in and you can't get away and just to shut him up you join and spend the rest of your life paying $65/month for crap you don't want.

brady is going to be an odd old retired man. that guy who keeps talking and talking and talking and offering what he thinks is sage old advice (and some might be) but he just won't quit talking but because he did so much you feel like you have to stay even though you've got places to be and a job to do.

he makes it look easy. looks like he's a college kid playing against a bunch of 5th graders sometimes. he just abuses defenses. can't wait to see what it looks like with it being his full time gig rather than having to split time being a student. plus with this coaching staff...lawdy i think we're in for a fun ride.

i think you're right, but i think that also it will be spread out earlier rather than later. the way Bryce runs an offense, his favorite target is going to always be the open guy with the most opportunity at any millisecond within a play. they all are going to have to have their heads on a swivel and always be ready to have the ball thrown to them regardless of who the hot read is supposed to be. with Bryce, they're all hot reads.

i see this as a very solid possibility, actually both for him and Duce. I don't really see either being an OC.

no, we were better with him. not enough to make it worth the price tag though, especially with his propensity to get injured...at least here anyways.
