I'm eating crow on Byron Bell

I admit it, Bell played awesome. I'm one of the biggest anti-Bell posters on this board, but today, against an awesome DE like Michael Johnson, Byron Bell played like a fuging man.

The knock on Bell is wild inconsistency, so eating crow over him after 1 good game is inappropriate. He could give up 4 sacks next week.

I have a feeling Bell is going to poo the bed when Cam is playing. He better be consistent and play well the rest of the season, that's when I will give him his props.

2 concerns...

First, Tampa Bay doesn't have very good DEs. They aren't anything to get excited over. They're actually pretty bad, to be honest. Shutting them out is nothing to write home about.

Second, Anderson doesn't hold onto the ball. He gets the ball out quick. If pressure comes, the ball is gone. Newton will sit in the pocket and try to extend plays. It's what makes him great but it also puts pressure on the OL and causes more breakdowns.

That said, Bell played well and the OL woes are overblown. He isn't Gross but he plays hard and is serviceable. He isn't terrible like many think. In fact, he could very well be a long-term starter at LT/RT or a quality reserve. The only concern I have with the OL is injuries. As the season goes on they're only gonna get better, but the line is scary thin and can't afford any injuries.

His stats say otherwise.  However, if he steps it up this year, then all will be forgotten.

He struggles against speed rushers which Johnson isn't. That said I was impressed as well. Chandler also did a good job. Interior was stout.

He had 11.5 the year before that, and? 

 

Trust me, look at his PFF grades. Michael Johnson is a very consistent pass rusher.
