Vick is an Eagle

They just opened up the phone lines to the callers......my God this is ugly. Lot's of people hate Vick for what he did and won't accept him no matter what. The host of the show is one of those people and is really fueling the fire.

One interesting topic is how will McNabb react the first time he is taken out in the red zone for Vick.....

Mortenesen is saying that Goodell was heavily involved with trying to get Vick a new team (talking to the teams, etc) and that if he (Goodell) had a team and needed a QB he would have signed Vick. I don't recall his ever taking an active role in helping another player under suspension get a job.

They didn't sell jerseys. The world we live in...

A league source says that McNabb is not happy with the acquisition of Vick despite his company line presser...

I thought it was interesting that in the comments, people noted that McNabb went out of his way to say Vick was no threat to him or Kolb. Why say that at all? Whistling past the graveyard?

Wow. A west coast offense team signing Vick?

Wonder how many years it'll take to learn the offense this time :nonod:

I'd also have to echo the sentiment that wonders why the Eagles seem to constantly want to piss off (or piss on) Donovan McNabb. I'm not the world's biggest McNabb fan but still he's the face of the franchise and he's been one of their biggest ticket draws for a long time. With his future still up in the air, why slap him in the face now?

Yes, they need a backup QB, but Vick hasn't exactly been the ideal west coast guy. I'd also have to check but my perception is that the Eagles receivers aren't exactly shopping in the big and tall shop, so his vision will be an issue again. The Eagles could have signed a decent backup west coast QB and paid less money while avoiding the inevitable QB controversy.

One thing I have to admit though: While I feel sorry for guys like JR and Cor, there's a wicked little part of me that knows the eventual influx of Vick worshippers onto the Eagles board (and the resulting MCF) could be pretty entertaining :sosp:

I am just still shocked as to why a suppposedly stable and respected organization like the Eagles would bring this type of scrutiny and distraction to their team. Not only that but this is really going to divide the fanbase and unfortunately much of that divide will be racial in nature which is already bad enough in that town. Regardless, this has really shaken this organization and I can't see how the positives will outweigh the negatives. I am hopeful though, but I just can't get a grasp of this move.

Vick press conference in a couple of minutes.......

I am interested to see what they do with Kolb. Feeley seems competent as a backup IMO (then again the Pats have a way of making Feeley look like a HOFer no matter what uni he wears). My guess is that they keep all three of those guys @ QB and cut some ST dude or they use one of their IR spots for Vick. I honestly don't expect Vick to have much of a role as a QB there.

I still think we will get him.

I hope you're not serious because that borders on delusionsal.

We were never interested, and still aren't. The only people who thought we would be were national idiots like Skip Bayless and Jamie Dukes, and their only basis was uninformed speculation.

Guys like Darin Gantt, Pat Yasinskas and Charles Chandler know better. Unlike the national guys, they actually have some direct personal insight with the Panthers organization. None of them took it seriously, and both Gantt and Yasinskas made it perfectly clear that they knew it would never happen.

Yet even with that, there were people still goofy enough to think it could,

Understand this clearly, Vick fans:

Vick coming to the Panthers was never a possibility, ever. It was never going to happen before, and it certainly will never happen in the future.

Get over it.

rumor has it that although Reid said he is coming here as a QB, he will more than likely be listed as a 3rd QB. We will see.....

I just can't help but to think the Eagles were "talked" into this move ......

Kolb going down no doubt helped.

I don't get it JR. It's clear he isn't a west coast QB, and the future with McNabb is still in question. The move to me makes little to no sense.

I just don't get it either...not against....just don't understand it. Hopefully it all works out for everyone involved.

It is also interesting that both Dungy and Reid who unfortunately have very public (and tragic) issues with their own kids are now the mentors to Mike Vick.

Eagles look like they have a bunch of good weapons on O after last night. Not sure what Vick would bring to them at this point.

It has been said, and not sure how true it is, that one of Dungy's criteria was that the team Vick went to had a stable QB situation in place. Certainly, their giving McNabb 25 mill guaranteed for 2 years would suggest that they are stable there for the length of Vick's contract.

    • We won't know the answer to this for a long time. Reality is, Caleb has been the consensus #1 in that draft for years. Bryce was a similar situation, but mostly the same. He was not the clear and obvious #1 that Caleb was, but most teams had Bryce at QB1. The Panthers were always going to be terrible Bryce's rookie year.  I don't think DJ Moore's presence would have changed anything about that offense, as our guards, center, and left tackle were getting demolished on nearly every snap. It's clear Caleb's dad was trying to do everything possible to ensure Caleb didn't end up in Chicago with Eberflus. It's hard to imagine that he wouldn't have done the same, but probably more publicly with our situation, considering Carolina is an easier target for the media than Chicago. We can all speculate, but it's impossible to tell who is going to have the better career on May 16, 2025. If either QB doesn't pan out, we have an easy answer. If both flame out, the bears clearly won the trade, but it wouldn't have really mattered anyway. We all know how we win the trade. Candidly, even if one of the other picks we gave up ends up being a hall of fame player, we don't know if the panthers would have taken that player anyway. All you can do is make the best decision you can in the moment with the information you have. I really like Bryce Young, and I'm glad he's a Carolina Panther.  The only way to win in the modern NFL is to have an absolute dude at QB. I personally am happy that our franchise recognizes this, as I remember times when they did not.
