Greg Hardy's trial might not happen until next year

Unless the new criteria is that if you are found guilty of domestic violence you are kicked out of the league for a year or longer, there is no reason to think he won't ever play for us or shouldn't play this year. If we use the commissioner's new punishment criteria as an example, then he should return week 7 regardless of his guilt or innocence. Michael Vick spent jail time for multiple felonies and still was suspended only for a year after his prison sentence was done. Why would we treat Hardy who was guilt of a misdemeanor as severely.

Absolutely. He better be on the field against the Seahawks at BOA after 6 games.

Because JR is controlled by the NFL and they are controlled by the media.

Mike Vick was just misunderstood, while Hardy is a monster that kills women.

Or do the Michael Jackson thing and pay her off.

Still, I would think that if you were told not to play until the dispute was resolved and the player and the team were expecting November and now it's next year, they should be able to reverse their decision.

I don't think you can pay her off at this point.  He was already found guilty and is appealing so I don't know she can just drop the charges.  And if he would pay her not to testify it might be seen as tampering with a material witness.  I am no lawyer but I would think that there are reasons why things are not just that easy.

An innocent man doesn't run, if he did nothing wrong then he deserves his day in court and due process. Many here were quick to judge Beason about the night club incident only to have it revealed that the guy was trying to extort Beason. The shame is on the organization for caving to the Bob Costas of the world and not allowing due process, since when did the nfl supersede our legal system? As much as it pains me, the 49ers have done it right with the handling of Ray McDonald

The 49ers are smart in the way they handled McDonald because they realize how short of an attention span the American public has. The public will wave their flags after 9/11, call for gun reform after Sandy Hook, and they'll do their ice bucket challenges, but at the end of the day, nobody gives a poo.

This whole DV thing in the NFL will pass, and while teams like the Panthers caved and lost players like Hardy, the 49ers will keep rolling with Ray Mac and not miss a beat. If he is found guilty, sure hell get suspended for 6 games, maybe more, but if he isn't he won't lose a down worth of playing time.

I hate to give the 49ers any credit for anything, but they did it right, and JR caved to fuging ESPN and Bob Costas.

I don't know that the 49ers have heard the last of it over RM.

The difference between him and Hardy though is all in the perception. Mcdonald hasn't been to court yet.

Though many of us here are familiar with the circumstances in Hardy's case, the public only hears that he was found guilty, regardless of his appeal or NC laws. That's just the bottom line unfortunately. Many people will not bother to inform themselves, they'll just join the angry mob.

He is not guilty of any crime in North Carolina. Media is selling lies. He is also not convicted of any crime either.

Not he's not cause he filed an appeal. He withdraw his appeal, he's guilty from the verdict of the judge

Im assuming thats what cpt was referencing

Why can't he just take the 6 game suspension now and move on? They aren't letting him play anyway. Then, if he appeal doesn't work out, he's already taken his punishment from the NFL anyway. Am I missing something?

He doesn't want to just concede $4.6 million dollars is probably what he's thinking.

Ah, so if he's suspended he doesn't get paid? That makes sense now. Thanks.

I guess that works for him, it just sucks for the Panthers.

That's what is unfortunate.

While giving into the media pressure, the Panthers have screwed everyone involved EXCEPT the guy who the media wants to get screwed.

The Panthers still pay Hardy $770K/week.

His teammates get screwed.

The owners have to pay him for nothing and get screwed.

The fans get screwed.

GH still getting paid and working out for free, getting swole for the next team he plays for.

It sucks.

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
