The guys at Black and Blue Review are as horrified by this NFLN piece as I am

A lot of times I'm convinced some of these guys are told what to present and in what manner when they get in front of the big ESPN/NFLN cameras.

I've seen very respectable write ups and interviews from guys like Bucky Brooks and Trent Dilfer, but the second they get in front of those cameras they start saying the same jargon everyone else is, even if it directly contradicts an article they posted the previous day.

Both Davis and Bucky Brooks have been part of the Panthers organization in the past.

Eric Davis studders his way through segments while trying to throw in the I know because I played rhetoric.  He is terrible.  How can you pick an aging veteran who has broken the single season passing yards record as a break out player for the upcoming season?  He stays close to the obvious and when he is challenged he comes with the I played and I know line.  They used to call him the human pylon when he played and he is now the journalistic equivalent.

You remember Davis differently than I do.

He was our best corner for years, and a big, big part of the 1996 playoff run.

Brooks was a ST scout for us if I recall.

His articles are REALLY insightful, guy has a ton of knowledge of Xs and Os and FO politics.

I've heard Eric Davis outside of major network journalism.  Him in particular makes me think anyone who steps in front of a large sports network basically has their story and portrayal already laid out in front of them.

I mean heck look what has happened to Adam Schefter. He did one thing, and used to be the best there was at it.  You followed him if you wanted the quickest access to news regarding trades, free agency and contracts. Now he's reporting a seemingly random array of league related news.

I could argue Jay Glazer is an exception there.

But yeah, NFL Network Schefter was way better than ESPN Schefter.

Fact is, if Cam had come into the NFL, stayed humble, and hit the same numbers he is hitting down... critics would consider the limitations he has on this squad because of our injuries, and put him in the top 5 QB spots guaranteed!

Dude...

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
