Best/Worst Trades in Panthers history

Jenkins was and is a top DT in this league. The proof is on the field.

Godfrey got abused last year....I can handle that b/c he was a rookie who was also playing a new position. Good year, is not a way describe what Godfrey's season was last year. Gary did nothing. So right now, neither are legit starters at their position b/c neither have put in a single solid year......now maybe the trade will end up looking good in the long run.....but as of today.....you can't classify that was one that has worked in our favor. Assumptions of what they will do don't matter until they actually perform. Someone said it was a good trade.....I was obviously pointing out we have seen nothing so far to rule it that way.

On top of all that, we also lacked exactly what Jenkins brought to the DT position last season.

Here's why I really don't like arguments like this, because they fail to take into account one of the most important factors, team chemistry. Jenkins was insanely injury prone so relying on him to be there for the full season was never in the cards regardless. Let's also not forget the untold number of penalties he earned us...

He reminded me of a power hitter in baseball. Home runs or strikeouts. I don't know how many times I watched him jump the snap count so quickly and either collapse the pocket beautifully or get called for encroachment. It felt like it was always one or the other, never an in between.

I agree with that.....but the play on the field as of today's date doesn't show it was a good trade. Now youth, potential, chemistry, etc. could easily make it a good trade......but we don't know that yet. Jenkins is a beast when he plays.....and imo a lot of what he said was true about the defense his last year.....and everyone on the board likes to bash those who ran that D.......so maybe Jenkins gets a small pass for some of that noise?

    • Thielen was a "dawg" like Dan Morgan likes to say. And they replaced him with puppies.  The analytics are probably saying this is more targets for younger receivers they are hoping to develop, specifically the first round pick from 2025. The eye test is going to show a very inexperienced group of WRs that are going to have some serious growing pains, for a 3rd year QB who has not yet proven to be the guy going forward.  It's crazy how in the literal first game of his NFL career, Cam Newton showed everyone he was a star QB and there was never any doubt about that. It almost didn't even matter who was around him, although he definitely had a serious lack of talent at WR for most of his career. Bryce is going into his third season and there is still a ton of doubt, and who is around him is seen as crucial for him to have success. I don't like it.
    • Everyone says AT was old and slow but the one thing he could do consistently was get separation. That takes skill and it's been a huge issue in our WR for years. And while Moore may be a great locker room guy and our WR coach may be a 12 year vet, he's not playing in the game. Vets like AT do what they do because they can see things others don't and exploit it. The DB interview I mentioned before was with Stephon Gilmore after his DPOY season. He was pulling the younger DBs aside showing them things you wouldn't even think you'd be able to tell from the way the receiver was standing.  Seeing what a DB or LB is biting on in game that can give you that half step advantage is huge and we don't have that experience in our WR group right now and I think it could end up hurting us. None of our receivers have lined up against NFL corners successfully on a regular basis. Having someone that can walk over and give you a tip to get a half yard separation can be a difference maker.
