Cam's First Facebook Post Since the Accident

In conclusion, the CHRISTIAN afterlife meme is not dangerous.  It gives hope to millions and millions of people world wide and is the reason that so many Christians are willing to risk their lives on mission trips that bring peace, hope and comfort to those around the world who have suffered terrible calamities such as the Haiti earthquake and the 2004 Tsunami in Thailand.

Anyways, not much more to say other than Go Cam! Go Panthers!

although i have my own opinion on missions trips (as a long time vet of them to various parts of the world) i do think it's interesting to note that there's plenty of derision within the christian community itself as to how much of a priority that good-doing actually is. ravi zacharias in particular (and kp yohannan actually) are leaders in the idea that a bowl of rice doesn't do you a damn bit of good if your soul is burning in eternity. reformed theologians are grabbing this torch and running with it, and it's influencing much of modern theology and missions philosophies; as a result, salvations, which is already the primary purpose of missions trips, is seen more and more as a priority over building schools, feeding people, etc. and it makes sense; if you believe people in asia are being carted off to hell by the wheelbarrow load, why wouldn't you make salvations a priority?

but that's where you've got problems in perception. most of the educated world is offended by the idea that if you happen to have not been born in a place where you were socialized in the christian tradition (or became one of the few outsiders influenced to join the flock) that you'll burn in horrific scalding skin-eating fire for ever and ever and ever, so when you're trying to convince non-believers that christians being willing to risk their lives to bring this message to the Other is a good thing, all you're going to do is convince them that your viewpoint, which free of arrogant intent, is fundamentally arrogant, and that you are to be looked upon with disdain for your actions.

I never realized Cam was a Christian. I have never seen him join the prayer huddle at the end of games. Personally I hope he continues to share his faith. My opinion of Cam went up significantly with that facebook post. Maybe it is genuine when he gives a kid a ball and not shrewd marketing. Way to go Cam.

He says a prayer at the goal post before warm-ups every game day.
