When Diggs recovered the fumble on the punt, Why was the play called dead ? Noone touched him. I thought it should have played on...........

I said exactly the same thing. I have no idea. It wasn't even that much of a bang-bang play. It just went into his hands and no one touched him. No big deal though. Preseason.

It was ruled a muffed punt, not a fumble. On a muffed punt the recovering player can't advance the ball.

not really. losing possession on a muffed punt = free touchdowns

don't want too many of those happening in your league

Not anymore:

The new "Jay Cutler Rule" states that if a fumble is ruled as an incomplete pass it is reviewable and possession of the ball will be awarded to the recovering team.

Not quite applicable to what the thread is about but the whistle doesn't always kill the play anymore.

i always wondered why when i played madden and that happened he would scoop the ball and the play would stop, id get so pissed......haha thanks for clearing that up!!!
