In this case you would definitely not want to cut him in year four and I know it is simplified but if you thought you wouldn't want to keep him five years you would give him the six million in year 5 not as a guaranteed signing bonus but a conditional roster bonus.

In your scenario if he got cut year 4 we would be on the hook for the 1 million bonus for that year and the 6 million bonus would be due immediately which is guaranteed in year 5.

In my scenario which is what happened with Moose the first time, we didn't keep him in 2005 and we didn't have to pay a huge roster bonus of 10 million. Using your example, by making it a roster bonus we wouldn't have to pay it if he were cut and we wouldn't be on the hook for it as long as he wasn't on the roster when the bonus was due.

Just sayin................

Hence the words.

Very Implified, and "mostly right" ;)

ment to say .. it would suck to have that job *

I doubt 1 person alone does all that.

That being said, the Panthers do a relativly good job with Cap Management.

They kept the 2 of the biggest name FA's this season. Gross and Peppers. We can debate whether those were good moves in another thread.

i wanna know who does it for the patriots .. they have a buttload of big names .. but then again .. does winning all those superbowls give them more cap room?

NO, the cap is the same for everyone. But winning Superbowls means that many veterans particularly older ones closer to the end of their career will play for a lot less money if they think they can win a Super bowl ring before they retire.
