I think you and I were going back and forth on it, and you finally just said....holy crap, this is awful.  The day Hurney was fired is probably my favorite Panthers memory right after winning the NFC and going to the SB.

That Hurney getting fired memory gets sweeter every day that Gettleman is our GM.  6 years, $76 million w/ $30 million signing bonus for Charles Johnson in July 2011 is a higher signing bonus than Cam got. Plus most of the money was pushed to the back years of the deal so Hurney could have cap room to keep signing free agents instead of drafting and developing quality rookies.

I have a tough time having super-positive feelings about anyone getting fired, especially from their dream job.

But with that said, firing Hurney was absolutely the right thing to do for the team. And so was hiring Gettleman.

The good news? I think Hurney may actually have found his niche now as a media guy /analyst.

Just balancing the emotional ledger. He caused me 10 years of heartache mis-managing the team, so I'll take joy in his firing until 2022. Then the ledger will be balanced and I'll move on. And I won't feel bad about being petty like that since he was paid plenty of $$$ while he was here. I feel he had no business representing himself as a competent GM when he applied for the job, with the handful of years he worked with Bobby Beathard, then the cup of coffee stint he worked here as de facto director of player operations before Seifert arrived.

I won't argue that Hurney wasn't truly qualified.

Happily, Richardson had learned better by the next time he hired a GM (that he let someone else find for him).
