I Am Watching Breaking Bad, Finally...

Please no spoilers in replies...   I watched a few episodes in the middle seasons a few years back and I thought it was great, but I had no idea about the context of a lot of the situations, so I decided to wait and watch from the beginning, so as not to cheat myself.

So, now that True Detective is off, Fear The Walking Dead doesn't start until later this month, and TWD doesn't start until October, I finally decided to delve in.  So, I started a couple of days ago, and I'm addicted...  It has ruined my gym plans for the last three nights lol.  I'm now in season three, episode three...

One huge observation that I feel compelled to share - I have found Skylar to be unlike able from the very beginning and had a feeling that she was just a giant, monster of a bitch waiting for the mask to melt off.  I feel right in making that prediction, so far.  What a bitch...

I mean, how can she accept working for that dirt bag Ted and selectively turning a blind eye to what he does (when she is not looking for his longing gaze in return), but demonize her husband and children's father, all while he is fighting his illness?  She is just an idiot.  And I'm hoping Walt pays her back by getting with the hot principal he works for lol.

It really is a great show.  I got hooked literally within minutes.  That was probably the best opening episode of any show I've ever watched.

Funny you should make a thread like this, because I was thinking of doing the same about another show...which I'll do right now instead of high-jacking this one.

Yeah,  I going back to the start of the year, I've done it several times with other shows.  I thought about making this same thread to discuss Sons Of Anarchy, which I finished a few months back, and I also just caught up on the entirety of The Last Man On Earth.

Sons of Anarchy is another show everyone raves about...afraid to start watching it now lol.

I gotta tell you... Wifey and I started SoA a month or so ago, and it is pretty much up there with Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad... Surprisingly...

I really thought it was going to be cheezy as hell and couldn't fathom how they were going to make me interested in a show about a biker club, but damn I feel stupid for thinking that now. It has great writing and they end on cliffhangers so much between shows sometimes you'll string 4-5 shows together... especially in seasons 3-4...

We are almost done with season 5 now, and it has admittedly slowed down a bit... but overall it has been a real pleasure to watch.

I felt the same way Bronn...  I just didn't want to give it a chance, but I just kept hearing people say how great it was, so I gave it a chance, and I just couldn't stop watching.

Like you said, the best part was how they ended each episode leaving you wanting more...  Man, I marathon watched the whole series in like 2 weeks lol.  Every time I'd get 2 or 3 episodes in, I'd think, "Alright, this is it for today," and then the way they ended it made me watch the next one to find out what happened.

And I hope this doesn't taint it for you, but IMO, where you are at now... It really felt like it went downhill for me from there for the last two seasons...  I felt it slowed down, but it also seemed to lose a lot of its momentum and the writing seemed to get lazy and sloppy in the last season.  I'll be interested to see what your feelings are once you finish it!

Also, that reminded me, Game of Thrones is also on the to-watch list...

Additionally, I have to say...

Also, since I initially posted, it is official...  I HATE SKYLER'S GUTS.  Like I hate the woman that is even playing her, lol...  Which is a credit to her, because she is really selling the role lol.

I am now in the episodes where Hank was shot, and this is INCREDIBLE.  Just great writing and story development!

The last five minutes of that episode are too much. Some of the most intense television I've ever watched...just perfect.

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.
