I'm hyped, I'm stoked, and as always I love our team... But, here are my concerns going forward and some observations from yesterday...

Also you're getting a lot of poo with the way you presented your argument, not the message itself. Treat the huddle like a good looking woman and warm her up first. You can't just whip your dick out and expect a warm embrace.

Saying you didn't want Funchess and how he's been a disappointment but still came through in the end was the equivalent of saying "Your friend was hotter so I settled for you. I guess it worked out ok because you do butt stuff" Do you expect to get a second booty call out of that kind of talk? I sure don't. Same goes for positive feedback from a huddle post.

Presentation is half the battle my friend. People don't really care about what you have to say these days, it's all in how you say it.

I expect to catch poo for expressing my opinion on the Funchess pick but I did make it clear how happy I was with our team as a whole and my overall giddiness as a fan, and yet, because I questioned Funchess and our wr unit, the vast majority of responses were I was being a dick and negative...

I get what you're saying, but clearly, some did not read the whole post and ran with what fit their narrative.

This team can win in so many different ways. We have the ultimate X-Factor on both sides of the ball. Luke Kuechly and Cam Newton. Enjoy the ride.

THIS.

As most of you know, I've been keeping a gamebook data spreadsheet, so I can see all the game stats for each game side by side.

What is quite striking to me is that each game has been quite different in terms of its tone and how we've won.  There isn't a single formula for "Panthers winning football."  For instance yesterday, I thought for SURE we'd have to win the turnover battle and score a TD on defense to beat the Hawks.  But no.  We lost the turnover battle, allowing Seattle to score 6 points on our turnovers, and yet for the first time all season, we scored 4 TDs by our offense.  100% of our points came on offensive TDs.  Wow.  That is not what I normally think of as Panthers football!  And yet it's what it took, and it's what we did.

Truly, the motto of this season so far seems to be "we did what we needed to win" - and it's been quite different each game.

More on these thoughts later in the week as I can dig a bit further into the gamebook data.

just between you and me PD, I think some of the valid points you make in the OP would be taken better if there wasn't the "See, I was right" aspect.

Re-reading the OP, there are several times it came across that way.

This seems to be a common issue with people who consistently have a problem with my posts.   While you may entirely be right, I also think it is entirely possible that the same people are pulling that out of anything I post because of their own personal issues with me on the huddle.

Regardless, how laughable is it that I could say "Funchess is a concern, stop." versus "I was worried about the Funchess pick and thought there were better options for reasons X, Y, and Z, and those problems appear to still be an issue" and one would be okay by the huddle by the latter is met with pitchforks and torches?

Which is why I believe it's just as likely a problem on the reader's end as it is the author's.

Also, I feel I should state, perhaps it is out of habit, but writing in college and such, I was taught to always cite your sources and to effectively state your argument, you should provide proof as to the why and the when that argument was established to further cement your credibility.   I don't state "I didn't like this pick" to gas myself up, I'm stating it to show my opinions are consistent.

But apparently, that is too highbrow here so I'll just say "poop," and call it a day.

I'm not sure how this win, over a sub .500 Seahawks team, can be considered bigger than the 2013 win over the Saints. I hate the Seahawks as much as anyone, but that 2013 game was a huge game for both squads.

You're a Saints fan, so you're thinking in that vacuum.  It's bigger because regardless of current record, the Seahawks have been to two consecutive Superbowl and thus have been the measuring stick for the last few years in the NFC.  Furthermore, we have likely been their biggest competition in the regular season for this same period, but signifying their dominance, we were close but not capable of actually besting them to this point.

We finally did, and as I mentioned, it represents a "changing of the guard."   In short, ding, dong, the Witch is dead.

And you for reading my entire post and getting me, Zax.  Few thins piss me off more than e-fandom measure contests and people doing so based on their own arbitrary rights and wrongs when it comes to how to view our team.  It is fuging stupid.  As I've said a million times before, I love this team like it was engraved in my DNA, and nothing will change that.  I'm gonna be here till the end And I wish people would understand that this is a message board for true fans to discuss and debate their concerns and views regarding the team.  This disposition to trash anyone and anything that utters any concern is mind boggling to me.  I state my concerns because I want them to be heard and I want our team to be without any true weakness...  And how boring would it be log in here everyday and read "yay! We're perfect! *tugjob*" from every single fuging poster registered here?  Lol...   Apparently that's what some people want.

Anyway, I'm happy we're undefeated and excited for our prospects going forward.  This is one of my happiest and proudest moments as a Panthers fan...  I just figured we could discuss possible areas of concern and observations without name calling and chest beating, but nope.

we can, but typically we wait until it's a little dead mid-week.

Now is the time to grab a dick and join the circle jerk.

You definitely make some reasonable points.  I think the real problem is it's just a day or two early for them.  Right now most everyone just wants to celebrate the win.

When you type something up along the lines of "I was worried about the pick when we made it, and there were better options at the time" regarding a 21 year old WR still adapting to the position only 5 games into his career, yes some people are going to question you on that. Adding in the names of a few notable huge draft busts from over the years doesn't help matters either.

It's not that your concerns aren't valid, but the approach could have been better.

How about we at least let the guy finish the season before we start throwing out the Dwayne Jarrett zingers just for shits, and giggles.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
