Since when did you gain the ability to challenge a play to review it for a penalty?

i'd counter that weird rule with the fact that that ball is uncatchable. If you wanted to call anything on luke it would be personal foul for unnecessary roughness, but it's not pass interference if there's 0% chance the receiver can even get his hands on the ball. I complained to my buddy that this reminded me of the NBA and all their pussy rules. Like intentional foul hack a shaq BS

Please show me where Pereira said that.  I can think of a few:

- Illegal forward pass beyond the line of scrimmage

- Illegal touching due to receiver being out of bounds

- Illegal touching of an onside kick

- Illegal forward handoff (yes, this exists)

- Tipped forward pass (that negates a pass interference)

- Illegal substitution (more than 11 players on the field)

All of these are reviewable and can result in a penalty being assessed even if one was not thrown initially.

I wish I could, as it has been during games over years, so it would be hard to dig up, but I have no reason to make it up and obviously, there are tons of other avid, hardcore football fans here who had not seen it or heard of it before either.  Maybe we were just misinformed, but it has been said by credible people.

I have seen illegal forward passes reviewed, and maybe the illegal touching on onside kicks, but it wasn't done in the fashion it was done last night.  And in almost all of those cases I recall seeing them reviewed, it was after a penalty was called and then they reviewed it to confirm it.   Whereas last night, there was no penalty called, then they reviewed it and assessed a penalty.

Oh well...   The more you know!
