McNabb injures rib in Week 1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Donovan McNabb was walking gingerly to the locker room with a cracked rib about the same time Jake Delhomme was mercifully yanked after his fifth turnover.

It was the third quarter of the Philadelphia Eagles’ 38-10 rout of the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, and both franchises suddenly had big worries about their veteran quarterbacks. One was injured two weeks before Michael Vick is eligible to return, the other can’t seem to throw it to the right team anymore.

With Delhomme increasing his two-game turnover total to 11, the Eagles’ dominating defensive performance in their second straight season-opening rout was tempered by concerns about McNabb, who was crunched by several tacklers on a 3-yard touchdown run.

“He’s sore right now. He’s got a broken rib,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said. “We’ll just see how he does over the next little bit.”

With the suspended Vick watching from a luxury suite, Kevin Kolb finished at quarterback as the Eagles ran out the clock on a miserable day for the Panthers.

Reid wouldn’t rule out McNabb, who did not speak to reporters, from playing next week against New Orleans.

“Don is very resilient,” said running back Brian Westbrook, who caught one of McNabb’s two touchdown passes. “He heals fast.”

McNabb finished the day with 3 TDs and an INT. 80.6 QB rating.

Nah, I forgot the Giants got knocked out of the playoffs last year by McNabb part AT HOME. Eli looked pretty putrid that game without his stud to bail him out. LMAO. If they were smart, they'd get them a black QB too.

you really want to talk about the past?

I just hope mcnabb is out for more then 1 week because i wish bad things on any eagles qb.

    • Ron's two seasons he took to figure it out would be massive successes compared to the 2018-Present period. Those 6 and 7 win seasons look pretty great now.  Do you honestly think he will jump up to a 10+ win year in 2026? That's what Ron did.
    • I disagree, a lot of people on here have said their opinions on signees, draftees, coaching hires, who to play etc and have made better decisions than the front office. Not saying they could run a team, but they seem to be better armchair GMs than our current regime the last 6 years.
    • You might want to look at that table again.  Round 2 has the least QB's taken in that time period. What is more interesting is how the "darts at a dart board" happens in the 6th and 7th round. Those are the 2nd and 3rd most frequently drafted rounds for NFL QB's.  If you are strictly using my criteria for "success" it does lend credence to that not being an awful strategy. At 17-21% chance to get a bare minimum of 30+ starts OR a 5+ year career. That's pretty good for a very throwaway pick. I don't know how that would compare to other positions. I would maybe have to adapt what I have done to something like PFR's Career AV to set a line that accomplished roughly the same result as I have from the spreadsheet. If I can get to a number value, applying this to each position wouldn't be that hard. Not sure how "fair" that is without making some adjustment based on averages for each position. I would have to do that as well, I think. A positional "handicap" of sorts.
