A peasant throwing rocks at a giant

Norman has been great this year, eye-catching, provocative, dominant in some games.

Yet... I wouldn't bet on us selling the farm to keep him. Look at this way. The Panthers, as an organization under Gettleman's guidance, are coming into their maturity. As a team, we've grown up and we aren't playing like an expansion team. Part of growing up is determining what is worthwhile and what isn't worth the risk.

Josh Norman is like that crazy-ass girlfriend who was dynamite in bed, but would just completely go off the hinges once in a while. It's a helluva ride, but it isn't worth her throwing dishes at you or busting up your car because you didn't get home in time on date night. And let's face it, Josh talks some crazy sh*t now and then. TD won't always be around to calm him down.

So, do you keep a guy like that? Yeah, up to a point. In the NFL, it's money or team chemistry that limits folks like him. He's worth a bit more than $7 million if he can keep playing at this level without going completely off the rails. And I mean here either getting ejected in a big game or maybe taking another round with Cam in training camp next summer.

It's Smitty, Part II and Gettleman knows it. I think he'll either sign him at $8 million a year for four years, or tag him for a year and let him go. Unless he cracks up in the playoffs. I mean like getting ejected and suspended for the Super Bowl level, then... let's not even think about that.

Norman was killing Evans in bump yesterday. I mean he owned him.

McDermott herd our prayers and put his DBs in bump and inside leverage more than twice in the game. The Bucs clearly wanted to run more inside routes early in the game, but couldn't. This team is evolving, getting better! Even at 15-1, they're getting better.

Shula is starting to realize that Funchess' best route is the slant. He gets inside even when DBs try to take it away. And Cam side arms that slant like no one else in the NFL.

Man, I'm telling yall. I am not afraid of Seattle or Arizona. The Super Bowl goes through Carolina this year. REAL TALK!!!

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
