Assuming no other bonuses, implies a cap hit of only $2.5M this year. Newton also reporting $10.5M is guaranteed, that's likely the signing bonus plus the base of the first two seasons. Gettleman likes to have contracts ascend in value until the next to last year, then dip a bit. Guaranteed money is probably all gone within the first two years. Total guess but the structure may look something like this:

2017: $1.5M signing bonus + $1M base (guaranteed) = $2.5M hit

2018: $1.5M signing bonus + $3.5M base (guaranteed) = $5M hit

2019: $1.5M signing bonus + $5.75M base (unguaranteed) = $7.25M hit

2020: $1.5M signing bonus + $4.75M base (unguaranteed) = $6.25M hit

Well, Newton was off on the guarantees, only $8.8M instead of the $10.5M he reported, so that changes the structure a bit. The total value is actually $17M, not $21M, but it can get to $21M it he hits all his incentives. But I was right in that the guaranteed portions were the base salaries in years 1 and 2, just the cap hits are a good bit less than the originally reported numbers.
