Analysis & Review of 2017 Draft Prospects Visits to date

@KB_fan I know I said it earlier but the breakdown was very easy to read for graphs and charts. So I have a few questions for you because I know you like data.

1. Even though data suggests that you have just as good of chance of finding a good RB later in the draft, why would you like to have a Fournette or CM in the 1st round?

To be honest, for me, I think it's somewhat subjective.  I love playing with data, but certainly I get swayed by emotions too when thinking about players.  My reasoning goes as follows.  Our offense *REALLY* struggled last year.  We've already added 3 significant players on D through free agency (Peppers, Adams, Captain.)  I think it would be a boost of morale & confidence to draft some playmakers, true WEAPONS on offense.  So, that means draft high on offense.

I can't say that Fournette or McCaffrey will necessarily be much better than someone like Perrine at RB.  Perrine might be very solid and "cost" us much less draft capital.  I'm ok with that.  But getting an Offensive Weapon at #8 may make an important statement that we're really working to strengthen our offense.  I think such a statement is needed for confidence.

2. Based on our offenses weaknesses, what position would make the biggest impact to improving our offense? Is there a player you love but don't think the Panthers would necessarily draft?

I'm not qualified to get into the question of what position on offense to draft.  I struggle to tell to what extent our recent problems on offense were scheme / play calling vs. talent, and also what can improve on our offense if we still have a somewhat shaky Oline as I fear might be the case.  McCaffrey excites me re: versatility as both RB and Slot WR, but I like what I see of some of the round 2 WR prospects (Godwin, Henderson).  Fournette looks like he could be a beast, but a little concerned about the shotgun / center question...

Having 2 strong TEs (both blocking & catching) could help us change up our offense and give some blocking help to increase protection & compensate for a weak Oline.

I haven't watched enough film to really answer your 2nd question as to any specific player I like that might not be on Panthers board.  I've mostly only focused on those who there is buzz about:  Fournette, McCaff, Howard.  I'd be ok with drafting any of these 3 at #8, and don't really know enough to choose between them.  Each has strengths & weaknesses.

3. I've seen you mention CB. Do you feel after taking 3 CBs that DG would be open to a high round CB? My feeling is that 3rd and after may be the earliest unless someone like Teez drops to our 2nd 2nd pick.

Picking a CB high is not on my radar really.  I'd prefer a DE (Thomas), Safety (Adams) or an offensive weapon (Fournette/McCaffrey or Howard) at #8.   But if Garrett, Thomas, Adams, Fournette, Howard, McCaffrey are all off the board before 8 and Lattimore was still there, I'd not cry if we got him.  Bradberry looks solid, and Worley promising, but we don't have much CB depth, so adding Lattimore and having Worley as back up (or vice versa depending on who wins competition) would not be terrible.

But it would not be my preference as I don't see CB as a huge need.  My higher priorities based on need are DE, OT, WR, S, RB & TE.

So it looks like we have only used 19 of our 30 private visits.

Gene Ferrell has an updated list.  He's now showing us at 25 of the 30:

Remember, this does NOT include private workouts, only the 30 "official private visits."  Also not included are certain LOCAL prospect visits that don't count against the 30.

So,@KB_fan or anyone know who were visits 28 and 29? Gettleman said we used 29, but walterfootball and the link in the OP have 27 that we all know. I'm interested in the last two unpublicized ones. I watched the visit list last year and I don't recall Bradberry being listed until after we drafted him.

I've been using this list:

And check out tweets by the author of that list, Gene Ferrell.  He's been tracking the visits closely.  I think he's accounted for 28 of the 29.

Think OJ Howard is #29

The on-campus workout with the Carolina Panthers will be a little easier. Howard can just display what he does best. While this is his first private workout with a team, Howard said he expects to go through plenty of in-line blocking drills.

Cal QB Davis Webb had a private workout with the Panthers

Some of the people Webb has met with on visits (Seattle, Arizona, Baltimore, Kansas City, the New York Jets) and private workouts (Carolina, the Los Angeles Chargers, Tampa Bay, San Francisco, the Jets again) say it reminds them more of how coaches operate. He’s obsessed with controlling the controllable and accomplishing goals, such as being Senior Bowl MVP (check) or finishing top-five in every drill at the combine (check).
