The Difference Between the Carolina Franchises

The difference between the Carolina Panthers Football and Carolina Hurricanes Hockey.

Carolina Panthers football went to the superbowl. They gave the coach a contract extension. The league figured him out, and have passed him by. They still have this coach and are slowly crumbing around him.

Carolina Hurricanes hockey won the Stanley cup. They gave the coach a contract extension. The league figured him out. They cut the cord mid season when they still had time to correct things. Made the playoffs and went to the conference finals.

Rutherford watches his team and isn't afraid to make adjustments when they are needed. It takes tough love to build a winning franchise.

Pt II

Carolina Hurricanes introduced cheerleaders into hockey rinks. Now, several other teams are doing the same thing. They encourage active fans and are routinely ranked as one of the better places to see a professional hockey game...at least in the US.

Carolina Panthers encourage passive fans, and kick people out for standing up. No questions asked. It's own fans are admitting that it's better to watch games at home than to go see them live.

God I hate these threads.

Carolina Hurricanes hockey won the Stanley cup. They gave the coach a contract extension. The league figured him out. They cut the cord mid season when they still had time to correct things. Made the playoffs and went to the division finals.

And then hired him again. Let's fire Fox and hire Dom Capers (actually doesn't sound like that bad of an idea lol)

Paul Maurice is garbage.

Rutherford watches his team and isn't afraid to make adjustments when they are needed. It takes tough love to build a winning franchise.

People don't even realize that the Hurricanes were rewarded a damn good franchise to begin with, while the Panthers are an expansion team. Tenfold in the way to "build a winner".

The fired Maurice after losing in the cup finals in 2002. Fired Laviolette after winning the cup. Both cases because the coach's style had become stale. The fact that Rutherford was willing to bring people back, like Maurice and Aaron Ward shows that he makes moves for the good of the team, and not what's best for his ego.

As for the damn good franchise...they had 10 straight losing seasons, and only a couple of winning seasons in their entire history before moving to Carolina. They had missed the playoffs for 5 straight years. In their first 10 years in Carolina, they made the cup finals twice and won it once. You have to give their management major credit for the turnaround.

how can you even compare a NHL franchise to an NFL franchise? you need to compare them to the AFL,they currently are not playing like NHL did a few back

I'm comparing how they teams are managed. The Hurricanes recognize problems and fix them, even at the top. The Panthers don't and are stuck spinning their wheels in mediocrity.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
