this is a thread where i compile news articles to normalize the idea that other teams besides the panthers also have conflicts between players and front office executives

Harris, now a member of the New England Patriots, criticized the Jets on Monday for his abrupt release.

“They kind of blindsided me with the whole thing, being so late in the offseason, a week before minicamp," Harris said on SiriusXM NFL Radio, according to ESPN.com. "It came out of left field. It was more about the disrespect of the whole situation than anything else."

http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2017/07/17/leveon-bell-contract-extension-pittsburgh-steelers-training-camp-franchise-tag/stories/201707170115

The deadline for franchise players to sign long-term deals with their teams has come and gone, and the Steelers and Le’Veon Bell were not able to come to terms on a new deal.

Bell will play this season for $12.12 million, all guaranteed, though he had not signed his one-year franchise tender before Monday.

The Steelers wanted to sign Bell to a long-term contract and tried hard in hours before the deadline. Team president Art Rooney II and general manager Kevin Colbert were vocal about that after the season and throughout the spring.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to agree to terms on a long-term contract with Le’Veon Bell prior to [Monday’s] deadline,” Colbert said in a statement. “Le’Veon is scheduled to play this year under the Exclusive Franchise Tag designation. We will resume our efforts to address his contract situation following the 2017 season.”

i love rotoworld

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/7486/kirk-cousins

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports "those close" to Kirk Cousins viewed the Redskins' release of their supposed contract offer as "bush league and unnecessary."

It was. Per La Canfora, senior VP of player personnel Doug Williams tried to clear the air with Cousins at camp. "(What) I told him was, 'It ain't about 2016 and it ain't about 2018. It's about 2017,'" Williams said. "Just do what you've been doing and don't worry about what the media and everybody says." It's a nice gesture, but almost certainly too little, too late. Absent an unprecedented third franchise tag, Cousins seems poised to walk next offseason.

aaron donald wants to get paid, yo

https://www.google.com/amp/www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-rams-hernandez-20170729-story,amp.html

All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald remained a no-show on the UC Irvine campus because of a contract dispute.

On the first day of what was supposed to be the new era of Rams football, the most talked-about player in camp was the one who wasn’t there.

“Any time your best player’s not there, you always would feel better if he was,” coach Sean McVay conceded.

While Donald reportedly isn't at Rams campand Bell isn't currently with the Steelers, Beckham was on the field working with his New York Giants teammates Friday during their first training camp practice of the summer. This is his approach even though he expressed a desire to be the highest-paid player in the NFL in a recent UNINTERRUPTED video.

raiders gm mckenzie be like " WE. ARE. FAM-UH-LEE"

“Well, he’s not in camp. My thing is to not talk about guys when they’re not in camp,” McKenzie said. “Donald’s my guy. Ever since he stepped in, after we lost (Jared Veldheer), I told him he’s my guy.

“That’s not going to change. I’d love to have him, and if you guys go down to L.A. and drive him up I’d appreciate it. We want to focus on the young guys practicing now, get these guys some reps and we’re just going to keep moving. We’ve got to practice.”

closure in seattle

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/pete-carroll-hoping-to-get-something-finished-soon-on-kam-chancellor-extension/

Kam Chancellor was slated to be a free agent in 2018, but the Seattle Seahawks appear to have no plans of letting the star strong safety hit the market. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll made it clear that extending Chancellor, one of the core members of the Legion of Boom, was a priority for the Seahawks. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, they have now locked him up for a three-year, $36 million extension with $25 million guaranteed.

Chancellor, of course, missed two games in 2015 due to contract disputes over a five-year deal that he signed in 2013, a holdout that ultimately got him nothing. Now that the ball was in court, the contract was fair on both sides.

Carroll, in true Carroll fashion, was optimistic throughout negotiations. According to  Rapoport, on Chancellor Carroll simply said "hopefully we will be able to get something finished soon."

Is Brown worth making another exception to Houston’s long-held practice of refusing to do anything contractually for players with more than one year left on the deal?

“Teams don’t really think like that, for the most part. They open the floodgate, or the door, with what they did for J.J. Watt. And they had to do something for Andre Johnson because he made a poor choice when he did his extension and he was so underpaid.”

Corry continued,

“The team probably is looking at it from the standpoint that if we do something for Brown now then we’re gonna have guys like Whitney Mercilus, who’s starting to get into that Andre Johnson territory because he signed a deal which makes him severely underpaid. He’s got 3 years under contract right now.

DeAndre Hopkins' holdout lasted all of one day.

The Houston Texans' Pro Bowl receiver is returning to the team Sunday, one day after he failed to report to training camp with the rest of his teammates. The team reinstated Hopkins from the reserve/did not report list, though he missed the first practice of camp.

A day after general manager Rick Smith expressed disappointment in Hopkins' no-show, the wideout replied.
