Well yeah, if you wanna say Hurney is good, I'd definitely try to look at something other than win-loss records.

But seriously, you can look at Marty Hurney's draft history and come away with the conclusion that he's a good talent evaluator?

Really?

Look, you can't just say "well, he picked this guy and he's good so he must be a good drafter", especially not when you're picking high in the draft.  You have to evaluate the strength of the entire roster, not just the best few guys on it.  And the best way to evaluate the strength of a full roster?  Wins and losses.

If you have to try and spin the analysis in a certain way in order to make Hurney look good, that oughtta tell you something.

I mean, if you want to look look at it that way, Gettelman wasn't good either. I am just arguing that you aren't actually using anything other than "gut feeling" as an evaluation method.

I'm using results, and when you're comparing results, I'll take four good seasons out of five vs three out of eleven.

How did Gettleman preside over four good seasons out of five?

Because he set this years roster in place too. Prior to that, three playoff seasons.

Even if you don't count this season though, that's a 75% playoff rate. Would you like to know what Hurney's percentage is?

Again, to promote Hurney, you have no choice but to direct the conversation away from wins and losses. That's a losing position to argue from.

If you want to include this as Gettleman's season, I think you have to give the 2013 record to Hurney.

I am not trying to promote anyone. I am very glad that Hurney got fired and equally as glad that Gettleman got fired. If anything, it appears that you are stumping as a Gettleman fanboy.

Was Hurney still in charge of the 2013 roster up through training camp?

Gettleman ran this season's draft, free agency, everything up till training camp. Hurney was fired in the middle of the 2012 season.

David Gettleman was not in charge of the 2017 roster up through training camp for the Carolina Panthers. In fact, he was fired before training camp started.

Hurney was the GM who put together the team that went to 2003 Super Bowl, no? And 2005 NFC title game. Worked with Bobby Beathard before that. Also hired Rivera and drafted some really great players. Certainly wasn’t ten years of mediocrity and failure.

Give credit where due.

Then he proceeded to mortgage the teams future on bad contracts, not to mention some horrible trades. Hurney was a pushover, who other teams took advantage of...

DG has awful people skills, but no other team (or player) was going to take advantage of a pushover...

Answer is....neither one, but a combo (of their better qualities) would be great. Which means the new owner needs to FIND that person.

Awful people skills for the South.

In New York, though?

LOL, yea agree there. But, he done things even people in the North would have issues with. Like how the Smitty and Norman situations went down.  Weather or not, we agree they should have been cut, how DG done was awful.

Look at NY rallying behind Eli...crappy way to do people...weather that are from the north or south.
