It gets skewed. For example, if a team sucks against the run, opponents will run on them and not pass very much. As a result, they wind up looking like they're better against the pass than they really are.

This is one reason why I don't put a whole lot of stock in rankings.

I understand your point but all the way at opposite ends? Their run D is better than Pitt/Balt/NYG&J but their pass D is worse than StL? That is remarkable. And 4-5 game results makes it statistically significant.

I don't remember that, but I do remember the 95 Broncos having the best run defense when it came to YPG, but the worst when it was YPC. I'm sure they still have plenty of nightmares of Means running all over them in the divisionals.
