I didn't. That sucks. Honestly, I'm kind of over the Fox movies. I'm ready for X-Men in the MCU, but we're quite a few years and movies away from that.

Anyone else see the new Spider-Man creative team? Nick Spencer and Ryan Freaking Ottley are on it!! That book is going to be so good. Ottley is the perfect artist for Spidey. I mean, just look at this art.

Speaking of X-Men and Spider-Man, I shamefully admit that I haven't read as much of them as I would have liked over the years (loved both cartoons as a kid though). What are some of the better stories I should check out?

I just read through all of ASM and I'm a huge spidey fan but I honestly can't recommend any of it.

Hell yeah I’m pumped for that. Spencer is one of the best out there. He was great at writing Spideys enemies in Superior Foes of spider man. Great book. This will be good too.

Damn, you didn’t like any one book enough to recommend? Not even Gauntlet, Brand New Day or the first Morlun storyline?

What did you think of Superior Spidey?

I actually skipped Superior.  That's the only thing I didn't read. I'm enjoying Spectacular Spider-Man more.

So not a fan of any ASM? I'm not the biggest Slott Spidey run, but The Gauntlet was awesome.

Agreed. I’m just pumped Spencer is doing ASM. One of the best around and it’s been a looooong time since we’ve had a new writer. Another good book write now is Moon Knight. I’m a little biased as I  am a huge moon knight fan, but this is well done and the art really goes well with the book. It’s worth a look if you get a chance.

I think the good spidey stuff is too old and dated to be really enjoyable, like Kraven's Last Hunt. It seems to me after the Symbiote mess and the Clone Saga that they've been trying too hard, when what makes Spidey good to me is his struggle with normalcy, not a Spider-verse.

That is very true. There are too many spider people and spider allies. Spidey is best when he’s balancing work, girl problems and being a super hero all while keeping his loved ones in the dark. I will say though, that’s what made gauntlet so good. Though, it reminded me of Batman Knightfall a tad. Last Hunt is awesome and Kraven is a very underrated villain. Side not, I am a big fan of kaine as scarlet spider and I wish he’d stay that way.

I like his stuff against King Pin and GG but now there's a thousand spideys and a thousand goblins  and a thousand symbiotes and it's all meaningless really. That's why I'm liking Spectacular more, there's a little bit more of a noir feel. I tried Ultimate but everything felt so rushed and what they did with Gwen should be a damn crime. As much as I love Spidey, there's nothing I can point to as "must read" like Batman: Year One, or The Killing Joke or X-men Age of Apocalypse or the Dark Phoenix Saga...

Slott made Peter Tony Stark light in a lot of ways and it never really appealed to me. It's been his status quo for a while now. Like ya'll have said, I like my Spidey (and I think most do as well) when he has to juggle real life stuff while also being Spidey. Slott has been on Spidey forever, so this is all that we've had for a while. Hopefully, Spencer gets back to the basics with Peter. At the very least, we'll get to look at Ottley's art which is fantastic.

I've never actually read Kraven's Last Hunt. Is it worth checking out? I'm always skeptical about some older books because they don't always hold up over the years.

    • Absolutely. He just turned 27 a few days ago, so quite young. He and Moehrig would be quite the pairing.  I know we say this every year, but this FA period has A LOT of talent that will be switching uniforms. We were aggressive last year and have no doubt this time next week will have some studs on defense.
    • DJ Moore has always been a bit of an enigma. He came here young, flashed a ton of potential, but never truly grew into a real #1. He’s had a few good reasons, but yet to have a real monster season (outside of his first year with Chicago) We’re still waiting for him to blossom, but he will be 29 next season. I fear that it is too late for him at this point.
    • I have considered free agency.  LT?  Either not good enough or too expensive.  Besides, this is a good OT draft.  (I would rather have a free agent, mind you, but the Panthers' reality suggests we can't do it without neglecting other positions).  What LTs are available in free agency, and what do you expect to pay?  Any Ickey-level OT is going to cost over $20m.   How much do we already have invested in our OL?  I get your point, but I do not think you can spend over $100m per on your OL. We have 2 guards and a right T who pull in about $75m per season.  We don't have a center yet.  Teams just don't let good LTs hit free agency, and when one does on rare occasion, he is expensive.  If you want a third of the Panther cap going to 5 Offensive Linemen, free agency is the way to go.  We still need S, ILB, Edge, WR, etc. I think we'd need more than Nijman--and I would understand if we went free agent for a T--but that is putting a TON of your cap at OL--so considering our situation, I do not see that option as preferable.  You may disagree. If I was not talking LT on our line and thinking about the cap, I would agree 100%.
