What Do You Think About Steve Comments

I'm glad he's not a drama queen like T.O., and this WAS in the heat of the moment (he'll calm down this week), but everything has a bit of truth in it. This just affirms he thinks Jake isn't good enough, and they don't utilize him better. I understand he has two guys on him at all times, but we do next to NOTHING (sans the run) to make teams worry about ANYONE else. I feel bad for Smitty.

I love Steve and he has gotten us through some close games. However, utility is not always stat driven. If he wasn't on the field then we may not have ran as well that final drive. They still have to watch where he is. He also was covered very very well today. We all know we bitch about Jake throwing into coverage. He is just not getting separation. He has also dropped a few this year which is out of character. Bottom line, I hate when a player bitches about not being involved. If you are on the field, you are involved...ask Kalil, ask Conner, ask anyone who only plays ST's. Anyway, I am sorry Steve's upset but we won so on to next week where we get to play someone with an eerily similar attitude.

Steve's a competitor. He's frustrated after the game (and yeah, he should be).

But if we keep rushing for 250+ yards, teams will have to loosen up on Smitty. I still say we should throw the smoke route or quick slant to him at least once a half, and use the reverse or line him up in the back field at least once a game. Give him those 3 extra touches or so and he'll be a bit happier, and will make something positive happen on all of them...and he's liable to break one off.

But either way, he'll be fine by Tuesday's practice. Just post-game frustration.

Yea... thats not going to happen a lot for the rest of the season looking at our schedule. We rushed for that, and still coulda lost

Shows you that this league is changing. You have to pass and run effectively

I remember after the 2nd INT that went for a TD, the rest of the team was off the field quick and I seen Steve run over and was stopped by Feely, and Feely was saying something to him

He is frustrated, on the last drive they threw the ball once for 4 yards, Any receiver of his skills would be, if they were not involved in the offense. The OC can not call up plays to get him the ball and the QB can not get the ball to him. If we lose Smith there would not be a run game, because you would have 11 rushing the QB.

I wish Jake would have a "Phantom" injury, like a Shoulder strain that will cause him not to play.

When he got hit last week, I was hoping it would keep him out. He's been hit a lot so far, and hasn't been injured yet. Its like he's destined to be our QB for the rest of the year

Um...you DID see the two deep passes Jake threw to a wide-open Smith that had plenty of separation that he overthrew right? If Jake had hit those two passes (and both passes Jake had plenty of time to throw) then Smith would have had 2 TDs and a million yards and you wouldn't be saying anything about his inability to gain separation.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
