So how would you fix it?

This is my special thread for people who know everything about football, and can't wait to share it on a message board. Fiz, KillerKat, GMan, etc..., are you ready? ;)

This is your scenario. You're STUCK with Jake. Period, end of discussion. No Moore, no Feeley, just Delhomme, ok? And you have the rest of our offense, including Jarrett, Moore, Barnidge, and the usual cast of characters.

So with Jake as your starting QB, and knowing that the line is coming together, and knowing what NFL defenses will do if you run 90% of the time, how do you get the offense rolling? What kind of plays do you call? How do you maximize the strengths of each offensive player and how do you hide their weaknesses?

And if it's different than what you see on the field, why do you think that is?

Probably limit Jake to short slants, screens, no throws over 15 yards. Treat him like the Bucs and Ravens did with Trent Dilfer. They managed to get into the playoffs with a terrible QB, but it requires a defense that gives up less than 13 points a game.

Did you see the Atlanta game? Thats how. Fox (or Davidson whoever calls the shots) has to completely change the way they pass. No more of those deep prayer passes into double or triple coverage Jake just does not have the arm anymore. We basically have to adopt some type of WCO and rely more on the dink and dunk, 5 yards here 10 yards there, type of passes. And don't wait till were down by 14 to start passing. Running every down might work against the Bucs and may work against the Bills but when we have to meet the top D's in the league we will be shredded.

Fox has been relying on SS for far to long. We have TE's that are great at both Route Running and Catching use them. We have Dwill who is one of the most explosive players in the league get him the ball in space. Whether its screens, swings, line him up at WR, or how bout we try a shovel pass now and again. We have the tools to make the passing game at least good maybe not great, we just have to use them properly.

The problem with the short passing system is that it brings every defensive player up to the line of scrimmage, making running the ball even harder.

We simply HAVE to have a downfield threat to prevent them from over loading on the run.

Joey Galloway? :gnorsi:

Not if our defense can dominate. Many teams have won a superbowl with no real downfield threat.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
