I Still Contend, The Eagles Game Was This Season's 2015 Victory On The Road Against the Seahawks... Some Observations and Some National Media Love ITT.

Multiple things to share, so just wanted to do so in one thread, so here it goes...

I stated after the game last week, that the way we came alive in that 4th Quarter, and the way Cam put the team on his back in a hostile environment, against a team that we have had some issues with in recent years, was deja vu for me.  It reminded me so much of the game against the Seahawks in 2015.  That game set the tone for the rest of the 2015 season.  It gave us a supreme confidence that was deep down in our subconscious until it wasn't...  and that carried us the rest of the way.  It was also that game where I recall the national media finally giving Cam his due and rumblings of MVP talk began.  It was also that game where even the most informed of our own fanbase, found out how efficient and dangerous our offense could be when Cam was given full autonomy.  That discovered gem was also carried through the rest of the season, which is what led to our offense being so vaunted the rest of the way, as Cam ran more uptempo and no-huddle than he ever had before or since.  Well, the Philly game last week had all of the same ingredients, and I felt like this game against the Ravens would be a true litmus test to see how we handled such a springboard victory the week before.  We passed with flying colors...  Ron seemed to make the right adjustments - i.e., calculated aggression and most importantly, on offense, giving Cam that autonomy that we saw in 2015.  It was a beautiful thing.  Sometimes, in a big, historic victory like we had in Philly, there is always a concern for a letdown the following week...  there was absolutely none of that.  The team looked focused, and more importantly, CONFIDENT, which is what I was looking for to ensure the full deja vu effect from 2015.  It's there.  If this team can stay focused, and maintain that confidence each week going forward, we are DANGEROUS, even moreso than we were in 2015, due to the added, explosive weapons that we now have.  There's something special brewing...

Now, to a couple of observations from yesterday:

*Eric Reid is progressing every week, as I expected it would take him a few weeks to get his game legs, and man, does he have them.  He just has a presence back there that we've missed for awhile.  He also seemed to close gaps in zone a lot quicker than the weeks prior and seems to be developing a solid chemistry with his defensive teammates...  saw some dap exchanged early on a play in the endzone between him, Luke, and Adams after they converged on a pass breakup.  Also, sweet blitz late in the game...  i still meant to check if he got the credit for a half sack, as his initial contact is what ultimately brought Flacco down once the calvary arrived.  Great game.

*Speaking of Reid...  saw the clip of Chancellor Adams meeting him, Kalil, and Tepper yesterday.  Absolutely beautiful.  I had a friend on social media (who isn't a Panthers fan) question the sincerity of the gesture and said our organization should've already reached out long ago, but found it coincidental that we did so the week Carruth was released from jail and it was all over the news.  But, my friend not being familiar with the organization and how it was run until Tepper got here, had no way of knowing the likely reason it never happened...  JR.  I was always thankful to JR for his passion in bringing a franchise to our state that we could take pride in and call our own.  And having seen him at a local Kiwanis club in Fayetteville as a teen for a luncheon, and seeing how he interacted with people as just an everyman was really admirable...  I saw how he contacted multiple fans directly, and even attempted to set up a call with me after an email I sent regarding my concern when rumors popped up that LA was trying to court us.  And I found all of that admirable, and the actions of a man with character and integrity.  That being said, in light of what we know now about the way things were handled within the organization for years, it appears JR was a classic case of Jekyll and Hyde.  There were some honorable and admirable things sprinkled in there...  but there was a whole lot of awful things hidden from the light for decades, and not acknowledging Chancellor and his amazing grandmother, Saundra Adams, was possibly the most glaring.  To turn a blind eye to them, to offer no assistance in Chancellor's care or needs, and at the very least, to never even acknowledge them, as though ignoring their existence in the very same city where their story unfolded would just make the whole fiasco that was Rae Carruth disappear, as though it never happened... That was dead wrong, and much like many other things Tepper has done so far, he seems set on making things right that should've been made right long ago, and seeing Chancellor get that moment was absolutely beautiful.  And no, I don't think it was coincidental, nor do I think it was a PR stunt in having them in the same week as Carruth's worthless ass was released from prison...  I think it was extremely savvy and calculated - Bring attention to the strength, courage, and resilience of Chancellor and Saundra, in part to take away the spotlight from a subhuman piece of poo that is Carruth, while shining it on the two who really matter...  Well done.

*We have an elite shutdown corner in the making in Jackson, that teams are scared to throw at.  I LOVE IT.  Gamble was the closest we ever had to a shutdown corner, and Jackson is already ahead of the curve...  also, huge sack by him early in the game.  He plays bigger and more physical than his size, and his speed is to be feared.  What a find by Hurney.  Also, DJ is becoming everything I hoped he would be as he sees the field more...  and I really hope Rivera and Norv feature him and Curtis more and more each week, as everytime they get a touch, it feels like they can take it to the house.

*Now, to the national media attention...  so, running up and back from the gym, and then running my kids up to school, I got to listen to some Golic and Wingo (which I'm not particularly fond of), and they've already spent large chunks of two different segments within a two hour span on our team and how we are quietly becoming a contender in the NFC.  They are slathering on the love for Cam and Norv as well...  they've gone on about his "marked" (Wingo's words verbatim) improvement in passing efficiency and accuracy under Norv and they all keep saying that this team is coming together and looking a lot like the 2015 squad.  I love it.  And a special nugget here to leave you with...  They had Jeff Saturday on, who appears to be among the most convinced that we are for real, and he is just heaping praise on Cam, Norv, and our team as a whole.  Well, he dropped an amazing stat, he said this season, in the red zone, through 7 games, Cam is 17 of 24 (almost 71%), 9 TDs and 0 INTs, and he pointed out that isn't even including Cam's running stats.  He said, "they are definitely NFC contenders."

*In that same vein, there are multiple threads already alluding to it, but I just wanted to express again, how great it is to have Cam as our QB.  Y'all know how I feel about Cam, but it's always worth saying again...  we are watching a once in a lifetime talent, and this year, in particular, is amazing to watch.  I think back to when he won the MVP in '15, and it was almost surreal as a fan, to realize that we had THE BEST player in the league, and everyone else recognized it...  it was something that once, just seemed like it didn't happen for franchises like ours.  I look forward to more wins moving forward, momentum, solidifying our belief in self, and for Cam to continue to get the love and respect he deserves as an MVP candidate once again.

*We are for real...  and I love it.

Great post, as usual champ.  You're right, we're watching a once in a generation type of athlete, we're lucky fans.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
