Bend Don't Break?

I hope the offensive line isn't comatose coming out in the first quarter. If the guys are mentally ready for this game, I think we will be fine. I believe Jake will come out with more focus and so will Smitty.

To me, on offense, its been the playcalling (along with the poor QB play) that has resulted in so many INTs. Davidson has not been able to find a groove passing the ball. He is not calling the right plays at the right time. The long passes to Moose are just Pathetic.

The slow, methodical offense Davidson is running is like an offensive version of Bend Don't Break.

After reading the article about Moose saying the defenses were keying into something, I think the answer is for Davidson to pick up the pace with the playcalling. If you take too long to set up, its hard for your team to be on the same page. Likewise, the defense gets that extra few seconds to anticipate. Go no huddle...go with the 2 minute offense early. We are too predictable. Mix up the timing and speed it up at uncomfortable times for the defense.

Jake needs to work fast and he becomes more decisive and more accurate. Without some pace and some urgency in the passing game, Jake can't get into a rhythm.

On D...all we need to do is what we've done the last 2 weeks. I'm a little suspicious of the Panthers anytime they play a back-up in a starting role...eeeesh...hold onto your hats! But if we get consistent pressure on the QB...I think the D can keep us in the game.

    • Brandt's comment about Wharton was from his KC perspective when Wharton was a UDFA rookie.   "it goes back to the anecdote that Brandt Tillis had when he was in Kansas City. And it would be so easy to just cut Turk Wharton in 2020 when he was an undrafted rookie from a division two college in Missouri. It would been so easy to cut him because then he would have cleared waivers easily. No one knew this guy. They didn't have any joint practices, didn't have a preseason. Would have been so easy to cut him and bring him back on the practice squad and let him continue to build from there. And Brandt essentially said, "No, he's got to make the 53man roster if we're going to have any sort sense of credibility with this team."
    • Plenty of us were scratching our heads about that signing at the time. Especially with our 3-4 defense. Wharton is kind of a one trick pony situational five tech DT. He doesn't have the beef to hold up against the run and he doesn't have the juice to shift outside. He's basically a situational pass rusher DT. If we paid him $40M+ and he can't start for a historically inept defense then holy poo...
    • Agreed.  300 and 2 or 3 total in Jacksonville in a winning effort would sure be a nice start.
