Retread coaches vs. Promoted OCs/DCs

All this talk about McCarthy has me bummed. I don’t want an old retread as our new HC. I want a younger, dynamic, innovative, offensive minded HC.

Since we all know Tepper reads the huddle, here are the analytics:

Since 1995 there have been 18 Super Bowl winning HCs.

8 have been retreads. (Shanahan, Vermeil, Belicheat, Gruden, Dungy, Coughlin, Carroll, and Kubiak)

9 have been promoted coordinators (Siefert, Holmgren, Billick, Cowher, Tomlin, Payton, McCarthy, John Harbaugh, and Pederson)

The only outlier is Switzer, and we all know that was a joke.

It’s worth noting that no Super Bowl winning coaches ever wins the big one elsewhere as a retread. (Correct me if I’m wrong.) We’ve tried it here with Siefert. All indications lend to McCarthy turning out the same way.

Do the right thing, Mr. Tepper. Hire an OC.

We've had retreads, we've had Coordinators, we've had innovators and inside the box thinkers.  It hasn't mattered.  Here's why;

25 seasons, 13 of which have been guided by the worst GM since Matt Millen.  Even the Lions knew to get rid of that tool bag.
