Draftng a QB now could be a big mistake

To the defense of the QB’s, the O-lines were horrible in pass protection. Plus, the refs would blow some plays dead to “protect” the QB’s.

Mariota looked better coming out of Oregon.  Herbert looks for the quick hitter and pulls it down if not there.  Dude screams WCO QB.  Granted, he's nimble for his size, but scrambling ability is not what impresses me in QBs.

Today, no QB had time to go down the field. The Oregon offense under the current regime is predicated on the short passing game and getting the ball to your playmakers in space. I think Herbert has better tools to work with and will be a good QB in this league. That said, he doesn’t have the innate ability like a Rogers or Mahomes.

As for Mariota, I think in the right offense, he could be a decent QB.

Agreed, but overall Herbert has an elongated wind up and a looping long ball.  Considering his size, he lacks arm strength for a 6'6" QB.  Again, his best asset is his mobility.  In order to be successful, he's going to need to land on the right team.  As long as he's not the #7 pick to the Panthers, I could care less where he lands.  Let some other team buy the hype and reach for him.  Heck, if another team wants to move up to #7 to take him, I'm game for that too.

I agree with you, I’d love to move down and potentially pick up another late 1st or early 2nd. We could pick Kinlaw and an OL. Then pick up a skill player with the additional pick.
