NFL expects training camps to start on time.

The NFL expects an on-time start for training camps next month, the league’s general counsel, Jeff Pash, said Thursday.

The target date is a July 28 opening to training camps for the full roster to keep teams on a “normal schedule”, Pash said. Rookies are expected to start a week earlier with quarterbacks following July 23, according to Panthers coach Matt Rhule.

Pash said “active discussions” are under way to determine the schedule after that. The Hall of Fame Game was canceled Thursday, and the league could shorten the four-game preseason to two games.

“We expect to have some resolution relatively soon on that,” Pash said.

This sounds great. However, if states need to roll things back to phase 1 stay at home because still no one wore masks it won't be happening.

    • Got to talk to Tiny Lister once back when I worked for AT&T.  He was a nice guy.
    • The team signed undrafted rookie JJ Weaver from Kentucky. The 25-year-old Weaver played six seasons in college (with injury waivers), and had 21.5 sacks. He was a three-time team captain for the Wildcats. To make room for him on the roster, the Panthers released outside linebacker Amare Barno. Barno, a sixth-round pick in 2022, tore his ACL late in the 2023 season and began last year on the physically unable to perform list. He had 3.0 sacks in three seasons, appearing in 29 games. Sad to see. He seemed to have a lot of potential when he was drafted. Injuries really derailed him though.
