Hurricanes Prospects (NCAA, Liiga, KHL, SHL, Junior Leagues) / Chicago Wolves (AHL) / Norfolk Admirals (ECHL)

After watching the Wolves game tonight (on NHLN) I think that one thing that would be helpful for our fans on here (both those that post and lurk) is to have a thread dedicated to our young prospects that we hope will make the big club one day.

As you get updates, feel free to post them here:

The Wolves got the 4-2 win tonight and Jalen Chatfield who the Canes signed to a one year deal this past year is on fire.

Chatfield (RHD) is on a three game goal streak and has four goals in eight games this year. In comparison, he had two goals in his previous 142 games with Utica. On the season, Chatfield has 4 goals, 1 assist, and 5 points in 8 games, he’s also a +6 and has an astonishing 25% shot percentage.

The other player I want to highlight is 2021 first round pick Scott Morrow. Morrow is a freshman at UMASS and currently is slotted as an LHD on the second pairing after starting the season on the third pairing.

Morrow currently has 3 goals, 5 assists, and 8 points in 8 games for UMASS, he’s also a +7.

Below is a nice article on Morrow, hopefully he follows in the footsteps of former UMASS defenseman and Avalanche star, Cale Makar.

For those that are missing Canes hockey, World Juniors starts today.

The Canes have a ton of kids playing and all games should be on NHLN.

Ya I’m going to try and catch as much of Finland’s and the US’s games as possible. Did not realize we had 3 Russians either. Gonna have to check them out too.

I’ll try to keep this going throughout World Juniors.

Ville Koivunen (Finland): 1 GP - 0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point, +2

Aleksi Heimosalmi (Finland): 1 GP - 0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point, +1

Nikita Quapp (Germany): 1 GP - 3.00 gaa, .864 sv%

Nikita Guslistov (Russia): 1 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, -1

Alexander Pashin (Russia): 1 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, +/-0

Vasiliy Ponomarev (Russia): 1 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, +/-0

Joel Nyström (Sweden): 1 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, +1

Zion Nybeck (Sweden): 1 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, -1

Ronan Seeley (Canada): 1 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, +/-0

The play of the day comes from Koivunen on the drop pass to Lambert who sets up Helenius for the goal.

I’ll go ahead and do a Team Finland update, Finland beat Austria 7-1 today to move to 2-0 and our boys continue to impress.

Ville Koivunen (Finland - RW): 2 GP - 2 goals, 2 assists, 4 points, +6

Aleksi Heimosalmi (Finland - RD): 2 GP - 0 goals, 2 assists, 2 points, +3

Koivunen was named the player of the game for Finland.

Highlights Below

Koivunen Goal 1 - Glides down the middle of the ice and finds a hole in the defense, Lambert finds him on the pretty feed.

Koivunen Assist 1 - Wins a board battle and slips a sweet pass out in front to Helenius for the goal.

Koivunen Goal 2 - The Ovechkin, enough said… not pictured was Heimosalmi’s secondary assist.

Team Russia Update

Russia beat Switzerland 4-2 to get their first win.

It was an interesting day for our Russian prospects… Pashin was scratched, Guslistov was dressed and active but didn’t play a single minute (unfortunately that still counts as a played game), and Ponomaryov had your typical “blend into the action” type of game… he was a +2 with no points.

Nikita Guslistov (Russia - C): 2 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, -1

Alexander Pashin (Russia - RW): 1 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, +/-0

Vasili Ponomaryov (Russia - C): 2 GP - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, +2

    • Yeah, Smitty is up there with Cam and Pep as not just my favorite Panthers, but favorite players ever.  But the poo he’s been doing since Tepper brought him back?  Save that poo and stfu.  Him getting on air and picking on Joey Slye while singing the praises of Matt Rhule and how he believed in him, and then Rhule gets canned and now he tells us it was horrible under Rhule.  The poo about Mingo being the real deal.  He is a fuging bullhorn for Tepper and it’s fuging pathetic.  As a professional, and as many have pointed out, imagine Smitty being on the field with a Rhule, a Mingo, a XL.  He would’ve fuged all them up because they weren’t pros.  Smitty had a MJ mentality - you either coming or get left behind, but you’re not gonna drag me down.  And now all of sudden you preach understanding and patience?  He’s a bully to people he can bully, and here he is punching down again (ask Anthony Bright and Ken Lucas about it) because somebody’s paying him to push bullshit.
    • He defends XL but destroys Coker. His opinions have always been useless
    • Honestly wouldn't be surprised if he has CTE. He was a tough wide receiver that liked to hit and be hit. His brain may have taken too much of a beating during his college/NFL career...
