Playoffs?!?!

OK, crazy idea but let me lay out a scenario for the panthers nabbing a wild card spot. Here it goes.

4-6 Panthers: @NYJ W, TB W, @NE W, MIN W, @NYG W, NO W. 10-6

6-4 Packers @ DET W, BAL L, @CHI W, PIT L, @ SEA W, @ARI W. 10-6

6-4 Giants: @DEN L, DAL L, PHI W, @ WAS W, CAR L, @MIN W. 9-7

5-5 Falcons TB W, PHI L, NO L, @NYJ W, BUF W, @TB W. 9-7

5-5 Eagles (Assuming Chicago wins tonight) WAS W, @ ATL W, @NYG L, SF W, DEN L, @ DAL L. 9-7

5-5 Bears @MIN L, STl W, GB L, @ BAL L, MIN W, @ DET W. 8-8

The panthers winning out does not seem probable but the way i figure it the Vikings and the Saints will have clinched their respective divisions by the time we play them. Expect Favre to sit after week 14. The saints will have nothing to play for week 17. Smash and Dash will tear apart the jets' run defense next week. Tampa Bay is a gimme win. That leaves the pats and the giants. I expect us to beat the patriots out of sheer hatred. We'll beat the giants in a similar fashion to get revenge for loss they gave us late last season.

Hoping for this to happen is probably foolish but panthers fans have to optimistic, right?

Those are just stupid scenarios at this point. Heck, I don't even think that the Bucs have been officially eliminated from the playoffs yet, doesn't mean they have a chance of making it.

If the Packers had lost today, I would have entertained the possibility since we'd just be one out again. But there are just simply too many teams standing in our way for the wild cards and too many great teams we still have to play. It ain't happening.

Perhaps, but this team has shown that it can run the ball effectively and still not win the game.

Tampa Bay is a gimme win.

There are no "gimme wins" in this league. Didn't you see the Bills game?

I expect us to beat the patriots out of sheer hatred

If you could beat the Patriots with just sheer hatred, don't you think more teams in the league would do so?

Like Kevin Garnett, anything is possible - but if the Panthers have to win out to grab a playoff spot, it just ain't happening. And that's coming from someone who still hasn't counted the Panthers out.

I'll entertain this idea when I get back from the moon planting more banana and coconut trees.

You better put some fuging persimmon trees up there! I'm tired of going all the way to the damn moon and not having a single fuging persimmon.

    • Predictions from the Observer writers  i am sad   I wish the Panthers had one, just one, game changing hero on their roster …one player that isnt ok with losing …there aren't any Steves,, Lukes,  Cams, Thomas’ on this roster    When  a team has a roster and there isn't one jersey that sells, there arent any heroes if there are, today is a good day to show up   From the Oberser  Fowler: Packers 30, Panthers 20. Carolina will hang around for a while for this one, but the Packers — a legitimate Super Bowl threat — have just too much firepower. Kaye: Packers 31, Panthers 20. Green Bay feels like one of the true Super Bowl contenders in the NFC. The Packers’ offense is dynamic and the defense continues to improve. With a banged up O-line and an unpredictable defense, I’m not sure it matters who is at QB for the Panthers on Sunday. The Packers should win at home in convincing fashion. Zietlow: Packers 35, Panthers 28. I predicted last week that the Bills would win in lopsided fashion. They were coming off a two-game losing streak followed by a bye. The Panthers, conversely, were due for a regression after three great weeks. This week, after refocusing, I think the Panthers will put up a strong performance. I also think Rico Dowdle will get the majority of the carries and that the defense will play much better against the run. The Packers will still win, but the Panthers will leave Lambeau with their heads held high.
