Sooo, Jake... About that $20 mil?

All this talk of our next quarterback, but no one seems to really address the fact that after this season Jake is still on the payroll to the sum of $16 million (and, correct me if I'm wrong, but he gets this even if he rides pine for 4 years or gets cut tomorrow).

Realistically, what bearing does this have on his future? Does the management swallow its pride and take a huge shot to the balls by benching or firing Jake if it comes to that at some point? Does he get to keep the job forever just on principal, like he is now?

I'd like to know what the real options are because I don't completely understand the NFL from a management perspective (then again, neither do the Panthers). Based on what I know it seems pretty unlikely that 09-10 is Jake's last season as a Panther. :confused:

Probably depends on who the coach is next year. If Fox stays things will probably not change much. Sorry can't answer the options part. I (like the Panthers) don't understand much about NFL management either.

i don't think that jerry richardson will fire john fox after the season is over...and as long as john fox is our head coach then jake will remain our piece of poo starter...think about it..as a coach john fox cant get any worse than he has been already this season.. and jake cant get any worse than hes been this year and he is still our starting QB...even if we lose the final 6 games which i predict we will lose atleast 5 of the last 6..we our stuck with fox and delhomme..:frown5:

You don't even seem to believe that. Here's why

If we have a new coach (and we probably will), then Jake will be cut or his contract will be reconstructed yet again so that he costs nothing to have here as a backup. IF≠ given. Jerry could decide to maintain continuity in the staff and justify it by the injuries. Should Fox and company stay, Jake is the starter because there is nothing in FA this year and we won't start a 2nd round rookie.

Jerry Richardson won't tolerate Jake coming in as the starter with no competition again. Merchandise sales are already plunging for the team during the peak shopping part of the year and you can bet your ass that concession sales are going to plunge for our remaining home games.

We're a fan base without hope that is slowly not caring about the team anymore because people know that we have no chance with Jake Delhomme. Richardson will see to it that that won't be an issue again next season.

The key is in how you define competition. Some here think Moore is the competition. Others think McCown with his variety of experience is. The rest of your post is speculating on what you think Jerry will do. He puts a lot of focus on leadership. That combined witrh the fact that jake's last 4 games have been way better than the first 4 this year may be enough to make Jerry good with keeping him. That plus the fact that he already paid 20 mill.

Carolina will offically be out of the hunt this week.....as Jake loses another. Fox will be gone.

Fox refuses to acknowledge his QB is done and current backups (as bad as they are) can't be a bigger liability despite not knowing the offense as well as Jake.

It would be asinine to assume that him going from atrocious to mediocre over his past four games would be enough to keep him for next year, especially since he managed to lose the Dolphins game for us just less than a week ago.

You seem to be just looking for a scapegoat. There were other issues outside of Jake's control that contributed to the losses.

BTW WHich veteran does your crystal ball say will be better than Delhomme next year?

      Personally I think he's a nightmare to cover I think linebackers generally aren't fast enough to keep up with him in coverage and cornerbacks don't have the strength to tackle him one-on-one in physically bring them down which would normally lead to a broken tackle or a nasty stiff arm or just bully ball play sure you could find a receiver with comparable speed like Cooper but he's faster than Cooper sure you can find a wide receiver that is the same size but he's probably More powerful than them and a better blocker.  The size speed athleticism package that he is in is completely unique it's easier to say I'd rather have just a big blocker because we've never seen this type of profile before I'm a risk taker I think you would be God blessed if this was there at 19 I think if you can get a guy that's a tight end who immediately becomes the fastest guy on your offense and at the same time that third wide receiver that can stretch and burn defenses over the top that's the perfect what the Panthers need type weapon.

      I think you're under selling Sadiq. They are two different players in terms of how they win. Loveland is 2 inches taller maybe 5-6 pounds heavier. Comparing his speed to sadiq.. well your comparing a 4.7 guy to a 4.3 guy I'm seeing a guy that can take a bubble screen from the tight end position and turn it into a house call. I'm not saying the guy is a certified home run pick but I don't think there's really a president's for a comparison for this kind of athlete. It's easy to say this doesn't look like Warren or Loveland because we haven't seen guys that fit this profile The closest you might be able to get is Vernon Davis.  He's not as sure far as those guys were but at 19 I think almost everybody is going to have some warts and he's a lottery ticket of could be top 10 in the draft player or could fail I am more of a risk taker I think he fits the athletic profile that could be a homerun, like I said he's almost 40 lb bigger than Cooper and like 4-5 in taller than Cooper so and he's faster. So whatever you think Cooper gives you I think he does that and more. If you want to go with one of the office alignment I can understand that as well but for value as a receiving threat I don't think there's a bigger value at number 19.
