On the other hand, Brown had more sacks than any of the defensive ends that were picked ahead of him. Defensive ends generally don't do well in their first year (with a few exceptions). Its not a rationalization. Its just the way things are in the NFL. All draft picks are a gamble. This one was a gamble, that that jury is still out on.

So as of this moment you'd agree though Cushing is the best Defensive player from the 2009 draft and the Brown trade is a potential bust. At this moment.

I guess anyone has the potential to be a bust, but I don't think Brown is going to be one. Numbers wise, he is among the best rookie defensive ends in the league.

Its impossible to compare linebackers to other positions on defense from a statistical perspective. At the moment, I would say that Cushing is the best linebacker from the 2009 draft and Brown has shown more than any of the defensive ends drafted ahead of him.
