'92 Dream Team going to Hall Of Fame

The Basketball Hall of Fame will announce Thursday afternoon that it will move this year's enshrinement date from mid-September to Aug. 13 in anticipation of the 1992 Dream Team being among the inductees of the Class of 2010, a league source said.

The official list of finalists will be announced Feb. 12, but the men's team that won Olympic gold in Barcelona for the United States and featured superstars Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Charles Barkley undoubtedly will be included in that select group.

Two other Dream Team stars, Scottie Pippen and Karl Malone, also will be eligible for induction this year for the first time.

The shift to August was made, in part, to eliminate a conflict with the world championships, which will be held in Istanbul from Aug. 28 to Sept. 12. In fact, USA Basketball hopes to fly in the current U.S. team to Springfield to be present for the Dream Team's induction.

Assembling the Dream Team alumni normally would be a tall order. However, Jordan likely will want to be in attendance to support his former Bulls teammate Pippen, and former Jazz point guard and Dream Team alumnus John Stockton will want to be on hand to celebrate Malone, his former Jazz teammate.

    • I think he's gone, and rightfully so, if he turns in another losing record. The "talented roster," regardless of how true or not, is a double-edged sword. If the roster is so much improved now from 202X then why are you still producing losing seasons? On one hand, maybe that's what needs to happen. Have the GM hire the new coach, and then have the new coach pick his guy to run his system. That is typically how it works in the NFL. Not the forced inheritance deal we have had in place.
    • Hinging on Brooks to be our spark...be good if it happens... but not holding my breath....RB next draft. Morgan gambled...it would be a 2 year payoff if thing happened.
    • Only way Canales is fired is if we are attrocious everywhere....  defense /special teams and offense..  There are enough "questions" on if BY9 is the guy that ownership wouldn't fire the coach for "just" mid qb play.  Especially with as talented a roster that has played "well enough" to win some tough football games and hang in there against the top tier of the NFL ...(mostly).   Now total team suckage..yeah .. but I don't see that happening.
