I just can't see it everything I have read says they are trying to get rid of an aging injury prone Portis why would they want to bring in the same thing with a new name.

In recent days LT has been working on talking his way out of town. AJ Smith who has ripped many players as well as LT publically in the past is curiously quiet. I expect LT to be gone before March 5th when a 2 million dollar roster bonus is due.

I also think he's going to have to set his contract demands way down as the last year plus his skills have deteriorated. He insists he won't take a paycut from the Bolts, too bad he won't play for the league minimum and finish his career in SD where he bleongs.

After a month of proclaiming he did not know what his future would be, the certain Hall of Famer said Thursday he knows he has played his last game as a Charger.

“I’m not coming back,” Tomlinson said. “I don’t believe I’ll be back in San Diego. I’ve accepted it.”

Tomlinson, who has two years remaining on his contract, said neither he nor his agent has spoken with the Chargers since the season ended. He has simply read the writing on the wall.

“I just felt like it was over,” Tomlinson said.

All that’s left now is for the breakup to become official, which likely won’t happen for a few weeks.

Tomlinson is due a $2 million roster bonus March 5 and would be paid $5 million in total salary in 2010. As part of the renegotiated contract he signed last March, he is guaranteed $1 million by the Chargers for next season.

Tomlinson said whenever the Chargers do let him go he will search for another team and will “definitely” play next season. The man whose 12,490 career rushing yards rank eighth in NFL history and whose 153 touchdowns rank third believes he can still be a productive rusher.

A trade is highly unlikely for two reasons.

First, any team interested in him would almost certainly not want to pay $5 million for a running back who will be 31 in June and who averaged 3.3 yards per carry in 2009. Also, sources said last year when the sides were reworking Tomlinson’s deal that the Chargers would not trade him out of respect. That is probably still the sentiment within the organization.

Very true, I think Snyder will consult with Shanny now and I don't see him taking a 30 year old running back that is now very soft when he has proven he can draft one anywhere and make them productive.

A tad off topic, but I guarantee that Tomlinson will be a 1,300 yard rusher as long as he goes to a good team with a fine offensive line. San Diego's OL couldn't get any push at all this season, and LT was constantly finding that there were zero holes to go through. Obviously he isn't as good as before, but he still has a good burst and continues to put up 10+ touchdowns each season.

Houston will grab him. Terrible goal line offense, and adding Tomlinson could help. I doubt New Orleans is interested anymore. Pierre Thomas, Mike Bell, and Reggie Bush are all capable and there is no point in going after a guy who isn't much of a need.

The only way Tomlinson will be productive is in a multiple back system such as ours or New England's. He's not done, but the tread doesn't cover Lincoln's head anymore when you do the penny tire check. The funny thing? Had he accepted a role sharing more carries with Turner early in his career, he would have been productive (and healthier) much longer. SD would never have let Turner go, and would still have a killer running game. My personal opinion is that he let his ego get in the way of what was best for both him and the team. His career numbers would have been better when he was done, and his career would have lasted longer, both enhancements to a HOF career if that is/was his goal. He would also would have been fresher at playoff time, and better able to step up his game. That's very hard to see or beleive when you're as young and talented as he was (cough, cough and rich). It really makes me appreciate what we have here in Carolina.
