What is the minimum you would accept in a peppers trade?

NOTE: I don't at all think JR's decision to hold firm and let him walk is a bad idea, it's just painful seeing him go for nothing.

The FO hasn't exactly been very good at filling in holes left by elite players, so I'm worried we're screwed without at least getting something for him. We've done well with LB's but i can't think of anything else unless I'm missing something obvious.

With Kris Jenkins the panthers initially held firm at a 1st rounder when he wanted to be traded. Eventually they went down to a 3rd and 5th.

IF peppers is franchised do you think they will accept less compensation than what he's worth? I know the threatening lockout has created a far different situation than my previous example

There is peppers REAL value, that won't ever be reached. High profile players or multiple picks seems unlikely.

I imagine we would get hustled by a franchise with cash to spend for a 2nd rounder, if multiple picks only 3rd and below.

As for players, I don't see any starters, mainly specialists and talented 2nd stringers. I think a few failed 1st rounders might work as the FO seems to like taking high picks and reviving their careers.

To find your minimum, think of at what point you would rather pay 20 million to peppers instead of getting poor compensation(i.e. a 7th rounder and a Snickers).

For me I don't care what we get in return, he's not worth 20 million. Send him to a team who is willing to give him a contract, lower his trade value enough and hopefully somebody will bite.

None of them from 2009, but maybe one of them in 2010.

I was actually going to say top-20, but I liked the sound of 15 better. I would actually go for any 2nd round pick probably.

Hey, the thread is about what I would accept, not what would be realistic. My realistic answer was any 2nd rounder. My unrealistic answer is a top-15 pick, $16 million in gold bullion, an apology from Peppers, and an autograph (from Steve Smith).

      So the fact that he was already projected in the first round says he is an elite talent by your argument. This is before the combine numbers. He was already a first round lock that says elite tight end by your measurement. Is he some blocking type player no.. but he is in the Pitts territory of elite H back split type guy. His blocking also isn't as bad as your making it out to be he shows effort and adequate ability. He isn't Sadiq "the freak" for any reason. He's been on NFL radars since before the season. How many "Freaks" or elite athletes do the Panthers have on their roster? You need game changing guys to put odds in your favor I think. Outside McMillan or Brown I say 0 and even McMillan might not qualify because his size is the only thing elite. He doesn't run 4.3 with 42 plus vertical like this kid, after the combine we would be lucky if he is on the board like what are we even talking about?

      Damn we almost agree.   I think he is limited. I don’t think 20 yards is deep enough to consider him a good deep ball thrower.  But we agree that the field needs to be stretched. The defense needs to feel legitimately concerned about all of the field. You cannot have that unless you threaten it.    Right now they are playing the odds that one throw and catch is a fluke and they have a better chance not worrying about it. Case in point the Rams regular season, he did it once and they still left it unaccounted for. Who else would defenses play that way?
