another article that reveals for the most part, nothing. thought this was an official comment regarding his status, but it's just a "they'll let everyone know if they don't tag him by Thursday" article :|

can't wait for Thursday for this speculation to FINALLY end.

If the Panthers simply let Peppers walk for nothing, I will stop coming to the Huddle forever, turn in my Panthers NC license plate, and sell all my Panthers memorabilia...

I got a baby on the way (should be here by Week 1, 2010) and I ain't gonna be able to keep up so much this year anyways probably...

I'm not saying it is a certainty that he gets the tag, but I hope, at worst, he tests the market and comes back... If we even let him go there and test it, it's likely the most stupid move we've ever made (including the Delhomme extension, the Gilbert trade, etc), and one that would make me lose all faith in the direction of the franchise...

I can see why Mark and Jon stepped down... We're moving in the wrong direction...

Prove me wrong, Fox and Hurney... Get the deal done NOW...

I can't help but agree with you there. I can't even stand to think of not supporting the Panthers, but there are 2 things that they can do that will cause me to seriously question why the hell I support them:

1st scenario: Peppers walks without compensation

2nd scenario: Jake is given the starting job at the beginning of the season

The first scenario with Peppers, I'll still watch games, maybe even go see a few home games(I live in VA so it's quite a trip to go there) and I'll still support them, but will hope they are fired after the season.

The second scenario I will stop watching Panther games, and will sell all my Panthers stuff and likely won't watch any Panthers games this year. That is the ONE thing that I cannot take as a Panthers fan.

He's gone. No one is worth $21million/year. And for him to get a long term contract w/ the Panthers, that's where the bidding will begin.

Please post pictures of your Panthers memorabilia.

I don't think any move is ever gonna beat that Delhomme extension

But, I agree with you. I don't care about the money or w/e...letting Peppers walk free is stupid

Don't worry... You all will get first dibs...

The Panthers should have worked out a long term deal before now... and they still have @5 days... I think if they can't get it done, they will tag him hoping they can get something in return in a trade...

If they cannot trade him, they eat the 21 Mil in the uncapped year and worry about 2011 when we see if there is even going to be football... We can't very well tag him the third year in a row, but his suitors will be lesser and lesser in numbers each year he ages...

I'm still holding out hope, and I'm pretty confident about Pep being here next year and beyond... I've been saying it since last year's scenario played out, and I still firmly believe it... Pep will be a career Panther...

It's not like they haven't tried to sign him long term. They offered him enough to make him the highest paid defensive player in the league. I blame his bumblef--k of an agent more than anything.

Hopefully they can work out a reasonable deal but if not, it's not the end of the world. We may actually end up being better bringing in Kampman and a few FA WRs with the extra money.

It would be extremely foolish to allow Peppers to walk without recieving compensation. Tag him, or watch our limited pass rush fall apart. Our other DEs have clearly shown that they have marginal pass rushing ability. I'll panic if we don't tag Peppers. Zone defense is worthless without a good pass rush. Peppers is a great pass rusher, Brown is unproven and has no bull rush, and that's about it. No need to name any of our other DEs. Tag Peppers, or bring in a DE with all-pro pass rushing ability. I hope the Panthers have a great plan in the works...

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
