Clayton: Campbell Wants Carolina, Does Carolina Want Him?

John Clayton was just on NFL Live and was asked what's going to happen with Jason Campbell. They said Shanahan and Campbell met after the trade and decided mutually that it was best for Campbell to work out on his own and not at the Redskins' facilities and to seek other options (as in trades).

He said Jason Campbell's #1 preference is the Panthers, but he said it's a matter of whether the Panthers will reciprocate the interest... Also mentioned the Raiders and another team, but said Carolina is Campbell's favorite.

Does he have any ties around here? Just curious why he'd want to come here as a top choice.

Out of all the teams that need a quarterback, Carolina:

A) Has the best offensive line

B) Has the best run game

C) Has the best defense

A, B, C combined) Has the best chance to win

I don't think he has any real ties with Carolina, though.(based off his Wiki page, so take it with a grain of salt.)

He's probably ???the best of the castoffs, with Bulger coming in a close 2nd. I just don't want the team to trade picks for a backup.

Im not advocating or rejecting bringing him in. By his is BY FAR ahead of any of the castoff QBs this season. that says more about the talent of the other guys than Campbell though imo. I mean Campbell is no slouch, but you know...

I don't assert things I'm not certain of. I feel he's likely the best. But he could also be terrible with a new team. Bulger, as a veteran who has been very good in the past, may be more reliable as a backup if Moore goes batshit crazy and can't play or something.

have a feeling all these QBs want Carolina because they saw that Jake was terrible last year so they have nothing to follow, but also saw that the running game here can carry a team.

that is my same feeling, seeing how a coaching staff can stand by a f**k up and just let the running game carry us instead of changing qb's, it's any scrub qb's dream

I still think he'd be an awesome fit here... Bulger has NO arm, and I don't think he'd be of much service if Moore isn't what we think he is going to be.

If they'll take the compensatory picks we got, that would be awesome... But, I think the Raiders will pretty much try to outbid anyone in a trade b/c of their lack of talent at the position.

    • Aho…come out and prove me wrong boy.
    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
    • I have no doubt the Canes will come out like gangbusters, huge bounce back from game one - my only concern is Freddie, if he lets in a couple of softies and Dobes stays hot we could be in trouble.
