My 55" HD TV picture now looks like it's trying to be 3-D

I have a 55" Mitsubishi WS-55511 1080 HD TV that I originally bought back in 2004 - yes, it's got some wear on its treads. Well, yesterday I turn on the toob and instead of my crisp HD picture, I have a picture that looks like my TV is trying to display in 3-D. Meaning, the red and blue convergence are way off- specifically, the red is WAY off. It almost looks like a red sheet had been hanging in front of my TV but the top left corner has fallen down and is just clumping in the middle of my screen. Sweet. Super duper. I google it and come to determine it's the integrated circuit inside the TV for the red/blue/green convergence. It's caput. I look around and most places are quoting $350-500 to diagnose and repair it. Fug that! I delve a bit deeper and find that I can order these parts myself. I can get the IC for only $20 online! So, I have that on the way, next day delivery, total fee: $30. Also found a step by step walkthrough (with pictures) online for how to replace the IC. It looks straightforward enough.

So, basically, I'm paying $30 and a little bit of time to fix my TV which would have cost $500 at a shop. $470 for labor?? Please. Go fug yourself.

I'll let y'all know my results.

Dimbee...before you start. Take before pics. Model Number. Go step by step on how you do this and record the tough spots with a camera. If it then works you do after pics.

Might be able to sell your repair video if you PW protect it and advertise on avsforums.com

Why fight it, find some 3d glasses and some LSD and enjoy.

It's funny you mention that. One of my son's movies- Sharkboy and Lava Girl came with the red/blue old school 3d glasses. So I threw a pair on, and.... it didn't do poo. I did find, though, that by closing the eye that looks through the red lense and only peer through the blue one, it removes the red convergence problem!

Good advice! Anytime I'm doing any kind of DIY with electronics, I photograph the whole process - I learned that from my dad the electrical engineer. ;)

    • Yeah, I've been torn up all week about this. And I'm going to be honest, you and I don't know poo about what is going on with the team. Are they losing the locker room? Not seeing anything from the players about that, just seeing it on forums like this. Are they concerned? Yeah, I'd think that would be a reasonable assumption. Are they rallying around Bryce? Yeah, that I'm seeing from the stuff we see of the players. Is some of it a bit drummed up, quite possibly. Is some of it genuine care and belief in their teammate, yeah most definitely. What is Morgan going to do? Hell, that was just week 1. And week one is often a liar. Once in a while it tells the truth (and that sure was an ugly one to tell last Sunday). Most often, it's just what it is. Half the teams that played in week one lost. Straight down the middle. Sometimes it was a close game, sometimes it was a blowout. We got punched in the face, had our lunch money stolen and Jacksonville kissed our girlfriend.  Me, I saw a team that wasn't up to speed yet. We were playing like this was the fourth pre-season game like we used to have. We're going to learn a lot about Bryce, this team, our coaching and team management after this week's game. It's against the Cardinals, a team that has always been one of those benchmarks for it. Beat them and good things happen (remember that killer game Julius Peppers had against them), lose and it often starts the fast slide to the bottom again (sadly, that playoff game with Jake...). Right now, the Cardinals have their Bryce Young, except their guy still has a better PR department. They have a meh-ish defense. They have a star WR that is underperforming and was possibly over-drafted. They don't have many stars to speak of and dwell around 3rd-4th place in their division on a regular basis. In other words, they are pretty much on par with us. And they are a forgotten team as well, playing games in obscurity. So, yeah, we're going to learn the tale of the season this weekend. And honestly, if we lose like we just did or worse, and I was Dan Morgan, I'd be working on polishing up that resume`.
    • Lol I don’t understand why everyone is liking that post and quoting it, it’s from last season. Did I miss something?
    • At this point, I don't want anymore fools gold from Young. He either needs to be in the MVP conversation  (lol) or I want to get blown out every game until he is off the team. Our front office just isn't bright enough to handle anything in between.
