Panthers might need middle man

(By Charles Chandler, [email protected]) Offensive line is hardly a primary area of need for the Carolina Panthers heading into next week's NFL Draft, but with three sixth-round picks and two seventh-rounders, it wouldn't be surprising to see them add a blocker or two, especially a center.p/Carolina has one of the top young centers in the league, Ryan Kalil, who is coming off his first Pro Bowl season. However, Kalil is in a unique contract situation that potentially could make him an unrestricted free agent after next season.

One of the lamest and filler-type articles I've seen the Observer pump out in awhile. Dude was taken early in the draft, had a sub-par rookie year playing out of place, stepped it up the last couple of years and is coming off an All-Pro season. Kalil is young, part of a line with chemistry and part of the reason we are freeing up this money on old talent is to re-sign guys like this after next season. Seriously, these writers are reaching for topics and it's not even a tough time of year to write about football..... the draft is 6 days away! I wish I could get back those 3 minutes from reading that piece. :nono:

pure garbage article. so many more topics that could be talked about rather than this topic. kalil, imo, has as much chance of leaving as deangelo or davis (young guys who has a contract up after this season). and they wonder why print media is on the outs.....tisk tisk charlotte observer.

What did they say that wasnt true? you guys are a little high strung today.

it is possible they may not resign him. think about this. say the panthers dont extend anyone this year , but want to do it next year. if the cba is agreed upon, with a new cap we will have to resign , davis, moore, kalil, dwill, beason, marshall, james anderson, jeff king . and also look to tie up both dts, dwayne jarrett,(if he pans out), charles johnson, dante rosario. all in the next 2 years

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
