Carolina: Reason to worry-Reason to not panic..from SI.com

i'm with you. our defense is going to be worn out by the 4th quarter. our offense had better be putting up 35+.

i don't expect much improvement on last years record but do expect to see vast improvement in performance offensively. the hole jake put us in to start the season was devastating. even with superior play late, we barely avoided a losing season by beating the resting saints. this year, i feel we're a legit 8-8 and maybe a well earned 9-7 but still missing the playoffs mostly due to the lack of a run defense. drafting so many QB's and WR's will have a serious affect on our DL, especially after losing 3 starters from the DL.

we didn't address it, and it will be our downfall. last year it was jake, this year it will be our shallow, undertalented DL.

We effectively have the same D line as last year. Kemo was out, so we didn't really 'lose' him this offseason, and Peppers only played every 4th game. All in all, we really only lost one guy. We'll be fine. Not great, but fine.

i dont think there's any real reason to assume the run defense will be that bad. with the sideline to sideline speed we have on D the only place to run will be up the gut. we'll see how disruptive those DTs can be in there but i wouldnt count out tank, leonard, and johnson. we've got wave after wave of bodies to throw in there against the run. and the speed behind it to make plays at and behind the line of scrimmage. and couple of tackles for loss with throw off your run game in a hurry. then we just trot in E. Brown and co to chase your QB. i think the defense is up there again next season.

REASON NOT TO PANIC: No team with Jon Beason on defense and Steve Smith, Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams and a quality line on offense is going to be out-classed on too many occasions.

Yeah, and having the 26th hardest schedule should help that cause. :yesnod:

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
