Panthers.com: Moore takes on lead(ership) role

So if you had a choice between lets say.. David Carr and Mike Vick?:)

Sad to say but I would pick Carr. His problem was between his ears but he had the physical skills. Vick's physical skills are eroding and he has nothing between the ears but empty space.

It doesn't matter if he didn't work before. He is working his ass off now and seems sincere about it, which is what counts.

I would agree totally and said as much in one of my earlier posts in this thread. Some folks just seem to like to keep arguing the point on and on regardless of whether it is germaine or not. In the end as long as Moore is doing everything right this year for whatever reason, the end result has to be good for us in the long run. It will even benefit Clausen as Moore can show him how it should be done. Since Clausen wasn't around for the previous time, he will see nothing but a hard working well prepared quarterback which is exactly what he needs to see.

:cheers2:

I am more excited for this season than any previous season thus far.

Does it really matter about the past? He didn't have a shot anyway. Delhomme was the unquestioned starter. I am glad he seems to be working harder.

That is true. It is rare for a guy who thinks he is 3rd on the depth chart at the beginning of camp to give it his all. Most of the time guys who don't expect to see the field will be less dedicated than the guy who knows he has to be the starter that week. But again it doesn't really matter as long as he is doing it now because he will be out there as the starter.

The only reason I keep arguing the point, is that I don't think it's fair to hang a label such as "poor work ethic" on somebody without any tangible evidence that it was ever true. The guy came in as an undrafted FA, got cut in Dallas, learned 3 different offenses in 2 years, broke his leg and couldn't even practice with the team in his 2nd year, and yet he won the starting QB job before his 3rd year was finished. That's an impressive feat any way you slice it, and I don't think that happens without hard work.

Hell, people point to things like injuries and having to learn new offenses as an excuse for why 1st round QB's still suck in their 3rd year, but Moore went through all of that and has succeeded so far.

You should let it go, because this whole "Moore has a poor work ethic" thing was based on hearsay and opinion in the first place. I for one, refuse to judge Matt Moore ( or anybody else on this team) based on secondhand information with no real tangible evidence to back it up.

The bottom line is that Matt Moore has performed well in every regular season NFL game he has started over a 3 year span, and I just don't believe that would have happened without him putting in the work beforehand. QB is one spot where it's damn near impossible to succeed without good preperation.

Why so defensive about Moore? Nobody's judging him. P55 never said he was bad or anything, just that the word was he previously didn't have the best work ethic, but now seems to be doing all the right things.

The thing is, P55 is actually correct here. In previous years, I personally saw interviews on TV where when asked about his off-season, Moore only talked about going on vacation or just hanging out. Last year, he also said during the off-season conditioning program that he enjoyed it because he could get in early, run a little, lift some weights, then get out by about 10:00 am or so and have the rest of the day to do whatever he wanted. At no point, have I ever heard him talk about doing anything beyond what was required of him to improve during the off-season...until this year.

Add that with what Zod (I think) said a while back about an insider telling him about Moore not being a Fox guy (implicit in that is a hard worker that demonstrates strong intangibles, which is what Fox gravitates to). Along with one of the beat writers who added a blurb in an article a few weeks ago that, and I'm paraphrasing, "Moore has never been one to be the first one on the field or last one off." That statement was made in a way to praise Moore for how he is approaching this off-season differently and how seriously he is taking this opportunity.

And there have been other similar anecdotes that by themselves don't really show anything, but when put together starts to paint a picture of a guy that did what he was supposed to, but didn't necessarily go above and beyond. Of course none of us knows for certain, but the signs were definitely there. But the signs also indicate that now that he sees the starting QB gig in front of his eyes, he's doing everything he can to earn it.

Read my last post. I don't care what Moore has said in interviews or what Zod or Dan Morgan has said. Matt Moore has outperformed Delhomme, Carr, Testaverde, Feeley, and McCown ( all experienced veterans) even though he had to spend 08 recovering from a broken leg. I just don't see how that happens without some hard work being put in to it. Hell, maybe y'all are right though, and he is just that smart and that good. It sure is hard to believe that since he wasn't even drafted though.

BTW, is it really all that surprising that Moore wasn't the first one there or the last to leave while Jake Delhomme was on the team? No Panther has ever worked harder or cared more about this team than Jake Delhomme.

Nothing from the point Jake Delhomme was released back matters anymore. Moore is the QB, is working hard, and has a young talented QB pushing him. Enough with what happened in the past, this is the present.

Fair enough. We are in great shape at the QB position.

I will say this though...if Matt Moore wasn't trying very hard before, then he should be as good as just about any QB in the league if he actually puts all his effort into it.

We agree. I said the same thing pages ago.

Good for you. I'm still very skeptical about this work ethic theory though.

I hope you are 100% right though, because that pretty much means that the Panthers now have a top 10 QB for less than top 20 compensation, and the sky is the limit for the Panthers offense.

Can't give it up can you, LOL.

Truth is whether Moore or Clausen plays we will have gotten a great deal on either one. The real issue is whether Moore is here next year and beyond no matter how well he plays. After playing for 3 million this year he will want to get paid what he is worth next year. And right now that is 10 million a year. With Clausen likely playing for half of that for the next 4 or 5 years, we will see how much Richardson is willing to lock into one position. If Big Cat stays as cheap as he is right now, it doesn't look good for Moore no matter how he plays.
