"I am a competitor, whether it is on the football field, in the classroom, playing video games or whatever it is. I am a real competitor," Clausen said. "That's what I try to do - come out here and compete and do everything I can to make myself and the team better."

Even though he is the third quarterback on the depth chart now, Clausen's ultimate goal is to be the Carolina Panthers starting quarterback.

"That's my goal and that's what I'm doing right now. I'm going to everything I can to become the starter," he said. "My mentality is to prepare like I'm the starter and just go out there each and every day and have that mindset."

The younger brother of two former Division I quarterbacks, Casey and Rick Clausen who both played at Tennessee, he had many intense battles with them growing up. Whether it is at sports or video games, especially his all-time favorite - Major League Baseball featuring Ken Griffey, Jr. - he always wants to win.

Damn, I'd love to school his azz, I use to have MLB ft. Ken Griffey Jr. for the N64. Played it religiously. Fun times as long as your not hitting against Randy Johnson's 106 mph Super Fastball.

Nothing like the old school game systems where the game would start messing up and wouldn't load properly, you take the game out, blow a stout puff of air along the exposed chip board or whatever the hell it was, then another strong puff of air into the belly of the game system itself. Popped the cartridge in, snapped it down, shut the lid, smacked the top, turned it on, and voila.....Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

But yeah, I think Clausen has real potential with the competitive spirit and all that.

yeah, i like his moxie so far. still haven't seen a reason to not like this kid. nor have i seen a reason to not warrant the pick by Hurney and Fox. he'll be #2 definitely by the end of training camp. i thought he was already... but what do i know? just a couple more months away and we'll see what this kid's really got!
